Before
Television there was the radio. Rather than sit staring at a screen all day,
one could sit in front of the radio and listen. There were pictures then, too,
and they were just as exciting at the television pictures of today: The so-called pictures transmitted by
the radio were pictures in one's mind – from one's own imagination.
And
before that? Before television and the radio, there was the stereo-viewer. One
could visit anywhere in the world – and see such places in 3 dimension!
Perhaps that will be thenext advance in entertainment; 3 dimensional television
pictures.
The
Stereoviewer Age
started in the 1860's and lasted into the 1920's and later.
In
our exhibit, manuscripts of famous people and events will be accompanied by the
only way some could view these people or events, a stereo-view photo.
Ask
the attendant to 'sign-out' our simple pair of hand viewer.
It
was not necessary to have a viewer to see these photos. If one is able to
concentrate hard enough and focus their eyes – not on the photo –
but 2 feet BEHIND the photo, the 3 dimensional effect will appear. That is, if
you do not get frustrated or a headache, first.
