Rock Art and Native American Basketry

November is the month at Camp Internet where we explore and celebrate Native American Heritage in conjunction with this national observance. We offer year round Native Studies resources in the Islands, Backcountry, Southwest, Garden and American History tracks - plus host a gallery of Rock Art and Basketry. Please provide computer time for students to explore these resources this month, and then join in one or more of our special events.

Special November Events

Nov. 10-26 we will be hosting five new fun and educational learning activities online:

Our Rock Art Dig will be in the Campwide Dig room to help students see and learn about regional rock art from pre historic times. We suggest using this activity as a springboard for a hands-on project where students create their own individual or group rock art projects - paint on a rock ? create a chalk mural on the school grounds ? or a mural on brown kraft paper on the wall of the classroom ? use crayons to create a rock art drawing on fine sand paper ? Camp classrooms have tried all of these activities with great success.

The Campwide Field Reports room will be open for you to post written or visual / photographs of student's Native American Projects. These can be short essays about a tribe, a book report, or photographs of a rock art or basketry activity. Students take great pride in sharing their work online so encourage them to participate by self-publishing this month.

As an inter-classroom exchange, we invite you to email us to help link you up with another classroom in another state by email - including our Indian School partners - and exchange digital or paper Thanksgiving Cards.

Our Monthly Family Night will have a Native American Rock Art and Basketry theme this month. Open online, November 20th, 5pm-9pm PST, we welcome you to invite families into the classroom or online from home. We will convene online in the Family Internet Dig room. And our Ask-a-Scientist activity will focus on Rock Art this month and features guest experts from the American Rock Art Association. Date and time will be announced soon. Please RSVP so we can arrange to receive questions in advance, even if you are not able to attend live.
