please do introduce yourselves – where is your school ? how many students?
Join us for the first live WELCOME chat with the Camp team on Thursday the 25th, 8-10 am PST. This is a chance to test out this interactive online Q&A tool with your students so they are familiar with the format when we start hosting the special Trail Guide sessions. RSVP please to camp@campinternet.net if you will be able to attend.
Send in a Peace Poem to our Peace Works Project held each September!
Fun Highlights for Your Students This Week
In addition to the learning resources in your selected Expedition Track (which you can use as the research sources for any assignment that you as a teacher create), we also offer several fun ways to APPLY those resources as challenging learning exercises:
Try out an INTERNET DIG - now open in all tracks. These challenging Digs are interactive research projects where students can post their findings online – and because it is a LIVE setting, responsible behavior is required so please brief them on how to behave in a public posting area so we have only academic postings. To use the INTERNET DIGS, go to the Dig Menu from your own Expeditions TRAILHEAD (see link at top of that page).
Featured Digs This Month – catch them while they are live :
Channel Islands is learning about the Island of the Blue Dolphins in ‘ How did Karana Survive’ which includes some interesting film history components. This begins our comparative literature projects studying differences between original true story, the book, and the film versions to help students understand media techniques vs. historical documents.
Ancient Southwest is featuring a new Internet Dig all are welcome to use – Discover The Great Mysteries of the Ancient Southwest – and this interactive Q&A exploration goes back further in time than you might ever have imagined …
Backcountry is doing the fun ‘Outdoor Living – Bully!’ Internet Dig featuring the John Muir and President Teddy Roosevelt camping trip that changed the American wilderness forever by leading to the National Parks System – plus more of Muir’s Backcountry daring adventures.
Global Garden is getting to learn about ‘The Three Sisters’ in an Internet Dig introducing Native American gardening practices in use today by many Americans.
American History is meeting the First Americans our early European settlers and GIS is starting to learn about geography and map making in their Digs.
Second Special Feature is to post a PEACE POEM, STORY, or ART WORK in the PEACE WORKS room open through September 30th in the CAMPWIDE FIELD REPORT ROOM. Or email entries to camp@campinternet.net.
Weekly Tip – ‘How to DIG the Internet’
Tip : If time does not allow each student to complete all Dig questions – divide questions up among the group and then once posted, have each one read their different question and answer to the room so all learn together. Also, be sure to use the stored Internet Digs in your track, available any day, any time, as student research assignments. These are accessed from the ACTIVITY link at top of your Trail Head. These provide valuable structure and guidance in using the resources.
