Camp Internet
is your base camp for launching rewarding online and live explorations
that Turn Technology into Learning.
We empower
teachers to deliver their curriculum using new tools that motivate
students to get really excited about learning and the results
are HIGHER TEST SCORES!
From the 4th-12th grade
levels, we have reading, history, science, art, social studies, and technology
resources that spur student achievement and bring schools a clear return
on their technology investments.
Are you ready to discover
a new way to Turn Technology into Learning and Information into Knowledge?
Join the Camp Internet distance learning community to explore the wonders
of the world and discover innovative techniques for leveraging technology
to help us learn in new and more meaningful ways. From teacher training,
to student programming, to family involvement projects, Camp Internet
is guiding learners of all ages to find even more value from their investment
in technology.
What
Shape will the Future Take ?
Amazing scientific
discoveries, historic events that shaped the world, art, music and storytelling,
environmental policies this is the wealth of human knowledge that will
shape the future of life on our planet. What shape will that future
take? Camp Internet is addressing this question by hosting year round
programs that explore the past, examine the world around us today, and
encourage our learners to employ advanced technology tools to envision
and build a positive future.
We
live in an exciting time. Education now takes place across continents
via distributed online learning linking learners with common interests
across vast geographic distances. But the Internet can offer us even more
powerful tools than email and web pages. Camp Internet is exploring new
second-level Internet tools: GIS mapping, video broadcasting, interactive
Internet web resources, teleconferencing, and remote robotics.
The
Internet global communications network can offer us a unique chance to
better understand the past and well-equip us to create a better future.
Will you accept this excitingtechnology and learning challenge
?
Our
Campers are learning about ancient life, dinosaurs, the first plants,
the forces that have shaped our continents, and the people who first walked
the lands. They study the historic events, industrial developments, and
environmental battles that have formed the society we know today. Our
explorers of all ages read the stories of famous writers and enjoy paintings
and sculptures by famous artists that capture the mysterious beauties
of living on this remarkable blue planet. They may look overhead and marvel
at the heavens learning how the ancient ones studied the stars, and
how to use an Internet-activated telescope today to draw down pictures
of the stars to their desktop computer.
The features UNIQUE
to Camp Internet, not offered by any other online program in the world are
a combination of:
Year
round online student programming with new features each week,
not seasonally, and that features unified, multi-subject interwoven
learning - reading and science, history and math, art and technology
- developing critical thinking and good communication skills.
In-person,
face-to-face popular 3-day teacher training with lab and field activities
in small groups with personal attention.
Interactive
online activities EVERY WEEK DAY where students post their own
research findings in a safe and supportive community, where they can
talk to expert Trail Guide scientists and historians every month,
and where they can publish their work - book reports, science projects,
GPS/GIS maps, diorama models, arts and crafts, or technology projects
online in a student gallery.
Year
round online teacher training and support 7 days a week.
Family
Involvement methodologies that bring parents into the classroom,
online, and out on local or remote field trips to bring the generations
together in a family-friendly learning environment.
A
custom materials kit with supplies for EVERY student, display
supplies for the classroom or library AND cool science and technology
tools - a GPS or a Digital Camera for every teacher or librarian!
A
program scale that lets our Camp staff interact personally with
every teacher to provide the support they need all year long. Camp
is NOT scaled to serve tens of thousands of classrooms, we are intentionally
scaled to offer MORE services, and BETTER services, to LESS teachers
so we can give them that extra level of attention that helps technology
really work in the classroom every week, not just as an occasional
activity. We are a distance learning COMMUNITY, not a faceless online
program. We love our Campers!
Campers can grab
a GPS unit from their Camp Internet supply kit and start plotting GIS
maps of their own neighborhood and plug their data into maps that link
to resources from classrooms and families all over the United States and
beyond. Live video streaming links Camp Internets guest scientists and
historians from universities and science or history centers right into
classrooms and homes via the Internet with out the requirement of expensive
satellite downlinks. Campers learn directly from experts, and we encourage
every Camper to also share the knowledge they gain through innovative
online publishing tools for GIS, web and video projects.

the world into the Classroom and the Classroom out into the world.
Camp Internet
is putting the Internet to work as a vehicle to carry our learners all
over the world - and into their own backyard - from the comfort of a
desktop computer. They may begin their Camp Expedition by listening to
the ancient tribal stories carried on from First People, move on to considering
the possibility of colonizing other planets, and meanwhile be testing
the soil or water in their own backyard. Camp Internet is leveraging the
power of second-level Internet to give students and families a chance
to gain new understanding of the past and to master the tools to build
a better future.
We
invite you to take the Camp Internet challenge to leverage the Internet
to help us all learn to build a better future. If we demand that the technology
serve the common good it will. But we have to have that intention. Camp
Internets intention to is leverage the technology to build fun, enjoyable,
and knowledge-building distance learning communities.
