American History Class Briefing

October 6 - October 12, 2003

We have been building our American History Timeline with great success. Expect one or more class timelines online by December.

The Timeline your class is creating is being used as part of a GIS Map. A special new way to visually study the history which once only came in a book with a little audio/visual backup. Use of new tools, like GIS, brings new life into the study of our Nation's history.

Look under "activities" on the top of the history homepage for your link to ongoing Timeline projects.

We will hold our regular class chat sessions Wednesday October 15 10a.m. to noon.

Please RSVP if your class will take part. Leave a note here if you will attend.

Our study of First Americans continues this month as we get ready for the harvest celebrations.

Have you gathered any acorns this year?

Reading continues to review the Transcendentalists. Many of America's most important writers from the 19th century were influenced by the Trancendentalists.

This month we will write brief biographies of Emerson, Thoreau, Whitman, Emily Dickinson and Margaret Fuller.

Religion is part of our American History studies this year. The mix of Native American, Quaker, Puritan, Catholic, African Protestant, Diests and others made for the special character that is America. Get ready for an exciting study of America's religious history.
