Camp Internet Outpost Briefing

Maym7-11, 2001

Highlights :

LIVE teacher's Dig this week is presented by Brian Bartlett of Ridgeview School in Yucaipa and offers a look at the California Backcountry learning resources. Dig will be active May 8-11.

California Water Wars

This month we will tackle the challenging issues of California water and land battles, with a focus on the Hetch Hetchy reservoir that was built to provide water to San Francisco, but, was built on National Parks land that had been set aside for preservation, not development. We have a CAMP CHALLENGE available to learn the different view points on this difficult issue. Start your explorations at http://www.rain.org/campinternet/backcountry/water/

Live Interactive Challenge

On May 15 and 16 we will host a Hetch Hetchy Challenge in the Student Dig room - please reserve a day to come in a meet this online interactive Challenge. Let us know which day you can attend, and at what time, May 15 or 16, 8-5. Your class can choose to take the side of the developers or the conservationists, and we will debate this historic event's issues together. Let us know which position your class would like to take - or you can divide your class into two groups and one will be the developers and the other the conservationist who will debate online from the classroom or computer lab.

Camp Internet visits Desert Sands District

This week, Camp Internet is visiting the Desert Sands School District for an annual California Dept of Education meeting and to see the Student Tech Fair. Teachers Janet Gallatin and Lynda Bloomquist from Desert Sands have entries in the Fair this year that feature camp Internet projects.
