The Cahuilla divided the year into eight seasons, each recognized partly on the basis of the growth cycle of the mesquite, whose beans were an important food resource, Trees beginning to form seed pods, Time of ripening of seed pods, Falling of the pods, Midsummer, Cool days, Cold days.
