California Geography Map Answers



Chumash - lived in the Transverse Ranges and plains of state #7 from Point Conception down to Malibu, out on the northern Channel Islands, and in limited areas of the southernmost central coastal ranges of state #6.

Gabrielino - lived in the southern tip of the Transverse ranges, the Los Angeles basin, and out on the southern Channel Islands, state #7.

Miwok - lived in the central Sierra Nevada foothills, backcountry, and central valley, states #2 and #5.

Maidu - lived in the southernmost region of the cascades west of Mt Lassen, and in the northern part of the central Valley, states #3 and #5.

Shasta - lived in the cascade range of state #3, and also were influenced by the Klamath river peoples and customs of the northern area of state #4

Cahuilla - lived in the Mojave and Colorado Desert areas of state #1

As you can now see, the tribes we have been studying include all states of the State of California !
