Distance Learning Project Recommended Student Team Program StructureProgram Leaders and Teachers working with groups of eight or more students will be given project management outlines that divide the group into manageable clusters of four groups per classroom. Each study unit and Challenge the student's face will be undertaken by the group, their responses either made online on the web, or mailed-in for special projects. Each registered classroom will be given a web site where their group's findings, art work, essays, and science projects can be posted, with featured areas specific to each cluster of students with-in that classroom. Using the five email accounts provided, one will be for the teacher's communication, the other four for the groups to participate. This will minimize competition over the computer in one-computer classrooms, and in large lab or single computer settings, will foster group cooperation and problem solving. This year's program divides the groups larger than eight students into four 'Clans' following the Native American traditions of the region under study. Clan of the Dolphins Clan of the Island Fox Clan of the Cormorant Clan of the White Shell Bead To begin the program, identify the members of each clan by passing out the printed pages designating the characteristics of each clan ( which can be colored or decorated as desired ). Explain to the students that these will be the teams they work in through out the year, tackling the Challenges together, and making group decisions about what they will submit to be on the web site as examples of their work, and what they will mail-in to the Camp for posting on the web gallery. If you are going to host a year-end Science and History Fair, they will also work as a team to prepare a project display for that community event. Click here to return Home
