![]() Camp Internet Briefing No. 1, 1999Welcome Back ! Here is what lays ahead for Winter and Spring. Please note the very special Channel Islands Symposium and Sustainable Seas Expedition learning opportunities - these are unique to this year's program and are a great chance for our students to interact with professional marine scientists - some straight from the National Geographic Society ! The Camp is also building a new video archive of interviews with Camp Trail Guides that we will introduce to you this month. Check the Camp web at http://www.rain.org/campinternet/channelhistory/video. We have the first of a great series of video interviews with Dr. Richard Murphy from the Jean-Michael Cousteau Society. If you haven't locked in on a date for the year end field trip, we need to get that taken care of this month too. The trip to Anacapa, with the option to camp on the beach in ventura, is proving popular. And we have special sessions going out to Catalina the week of May 10-14 too. At this time we are certain of boat transportation funding for classrooms who host at least one community night event, and fill out the requested field report. Please also plan a date between April 26 and May 7th for a Camp Community Night as we will have the National Geographic Sustainable Seas Expedition in town at that time for live chats. If the school's PTA has a meeting our Camp Counselor Susan Barkdoll can provide a demonstration for, that would also be an excellent Community Night opportunity - just help us get on the agenda. If your school has a computer lab, but your students have not been given sufficient access to it, please let us know and we will ask the project's contacts at County Schools to help us negotiate more computer time for your students. For those of you still trying to get your computers installed, let us know who to send a word of encouragement to at your District. Now that Camp Internet has been nominated for the Computerworld Smithsonian Award, there is additional impetus for school administrators to make sure there is sufficient hardware and connectivity access for each of your classrooms.
