And have Halloween and Days of the Dead celebrations online and in our schools... online we are also shifting subject features so take a look at what lies ahead ... Be sure to have students post their supernatural stories in the Student Chat Room October 31st, and we will keep it open through Days of the Dead Nov 1-2 for more posting and reading. Students must have their stories PREVIEWED by their teachers FIRST before posting online; please establish an approval system that prevents gruesome stories from going into the chat room and approves stories of the supernatural and mysterious unknown .. we ask every student to understand they are challenged to be responsible contributors to any and every Camp chat room, especially when it is 'open mike' as we are offering for these storytelling sessions. Teachers - please let us know if you can bring your school Librarian online this Thursday the 2nd anytime between 2-5pm so we can share reading suggestions with you both to help make MORE resources available to your students online. Science - Beginning Oceanography We hope you have had a chance to enjoy the Pygmy Mammoth section in our science section. This section has really interesting science facts the geographic and current features that shape the unique bio-system that surrounds the Channel Islands and exists ONLY in the one place on earth. What is UPWELLING ? Why is Point Conception a treacherous landmark ? What makes the GYRE swirl up all the food that attracts such a diverse range of tropical and arctic water creatures to the Channel Islands. Check it out ! If you have students type your own email address in the upper box the server will send you a copy of their work including final score. Let us know how it works for you. This week and next we feature Native Seafaring and Trading as we begin to study the interaction between the islands and mainland. Lets see if they have learned what was valuable on the islands for trade, and what the islanders had to go to the mainland to gather in trade. Coming Up Camp Alumni special projects will be featured early in November in the Teacher's Chat room - come see teacher innovations and adaptations of the Camp resources for their classrooms. The gallery of projects will open November 7th and remain until November 13th. Then we host a Meet-the-Author with provocative thinker Harley Hahn, author of numerous million best-seller Internet books. Harley will be with us for the Tuesday November 14th Teacher's Chat, 7-8pm. Family Night Our featured Family Night this month has been moved to November 16th so we can do a camp-wide ROCK ART Family Night.
