This Week in Channel Island Region History

Alas Mateys - this is our last week of Pirate Studies - next week we move on to shipwrecks from the 1800s. We hope you have had a good chance to learn about those fierce Channel Pirates!! Keep studying online at http://www.rain.org/campinternet/channelhistory/expedition2/pirates.html and be sure to check out the reading section that has pirate history activities and Treasure Island resources. http://www.rain.org/campinternet/channelhistory/culture/treasure-island-channel.html The tale of what brought Robert Louis Stevenson to California is an amazing love story .. and that he formed his ideas for the Treasure Island masterpiece here speaks much of his time in California. This section has interesting links to pirate resources, and to the full text of Treasure Island online. We also recommend showing one of the suggested Treasure Island films to your class if you do not have printed text available for each student.

Marine Studies

Along with the ongoing weather studies Camp hosts all winter, we are also working on our feature on Marie Studies and that trail begins at http://www.rain.org/campinternet/channelhistory/classes/sea.html . Learn about life under the sea, along the shore, and explore an ecosystem rarely seen by the human eye.
