FIRST LIVE CHAT

Please join us for the LIVE TRAIL GUIDE CHAT with Dr. Johnson, Chumash history expert. Session will be Nov 6 9-10 am PST, and if you can not attend, send your class questions ahead of time and we will post on your behalf. Then check back for the answers later. Please RSVP to camp@campinternet.net.

Guidelines for TRAIL GUIDE CHAT participation:

1. Please introduce students to Dr. Johnson using his online bio IN ADVANCE of
the session so they understand who they will be sending questions to. His bio is
on the TRAIL GUIDE WEB at http://www.rain.org/campinternet/trailguides/

2. Have students compile a set of six questions as a classroom, in advance, and
refer to our online Chumash resources in Islands and Southwest sections - and in
the rock art gallery - in preparing questions.

3. When chat begins - announce in the chat room that your class has arrived (and
include teacher name, school name, and city/state), and be sure each student who
posts a question puts their name and school name in the 'handle box.

4. All questions posted need to be on-topic and related to Chumash studies. It
is okay to prepare more than six questions, but let students know that they
should post 1-6 first and see if he has time to answers those before posting
more.

5. Since ONE scientist will have to answer MANY questions, students should be
shown how to use the provided links at the top of the chat room to read about
the Chumash while they wait to see a response to one or more of their questions.
No need to have a lull if they follow the links provided.

Students receive a LOT of value from these sessions, and his expertise is
pertinent to ALL expedition themes so bring your class on by and enjoy our First
Chat for the 2002-2003 school year!

NEW DIG - This week’s DIG introduces important geography and oceanography facts and events that have shaped life in the Channel region since prehistoric times.

Top Number One Challenge – Post your SCHOOL INTRODUCTIONS

Please POST YOUR SCHOOL INTRODUCTION in your expedition tracks Field Report Room. Say hello to your fellow Campers by letting us know who and where you are. This officially launches your EXPEDITION explorations! And start posting reports on ANIMAL SIGHTINGS on your school grounds.

For the Islands track, your room is located at http://chat.rain.org/cgi-bin/nph-isl-fr
