Camp Internet
Distance Learning Project 4th-6th Grade OptionsFourth through sixth grade classrooms usually are working with one teacher through out the day and will find the integration of the multi-subject Camp program easily inserted into each day's activities, or introduced on a weekly basis if time does not allow daily participation. Through out the year there will be science, social studies, history, creative writing, English literature and art learning activities to stimulate whole-person learning. Inside the Camp program there are multi-disciplinary study units and assignments to fill an hour a day of year round learning activities, and the subject matter meets State Framework recommendations for classroom programming. Or you have the option to follow the program at varying depths depending on your other classroom activities - every day some weeks, only once a week other weeks, and so on. You will see the classroom working in a buzz, divided into their Clan groups, reading the web assignments and then returning to their desks or group tables to complete the assignments. This program has been designed with the single computer classroom in mind, so please open each day's session with an overview of what they will find new on the Camp site, and then let the groups take turns at the computer gathering the data for that specific study unit. As often as possible, we will provide masters for handouts that will allow all students to be working on the projects at once, and not losing valuable learning time waiting to see the computer screen. If possible, to expand the effectiveness of a single computer classroom, the use of a television and investment of $200 in a computer-to-TV converter can expand the class' access to the program by allowing them to see the computer screen as a group, watching the web programming on the larger television screen. Or of you have access to the computer lab, then you will have stations for each student. Many of the hands-on learning projects suggested in each study unit actually give the students a way to take the information gathered from the web site, and then translate that into a physical game or project that puts their full body to work answering the questions presented online. In this way, the students integrate new knowledge intellectually, and physically, offering a full-body / intellect challenge that stimulates higher achievement in the subject matter, and increases the enjoyment in learning. | |
