The following is information that will help you navigate successfully through sixth grade.

Gold ArrowSTANDARDS: This is a link to the California Language Arts Standards. You might want to take a look at them to see what you'll be expected to do in order to pass 6th grade. Please share them with your parents too.

Gold ArrowHOMEWORK: You will receive different kinds of homework throughout the year. Regular homework assignments will generally be given only on weekdays and should take no more than 45 minutes to complete. Remember, do your homework carefully and neatly. In addition, you must read every evening for 30-45 minutes. You will be using the Accelerated Reader program and you will have a quarterly goal to meet by reading these designated books.

Gold ArrowDISCIPLINE: The Discipline Plan should be kept in a safe place where you can review the rules from time to time.

Gold ArrowSUPPLIES: You are required to have the following materials in class at all times.

  1. Heavy duty, 3-ring notebook with dividers
  2. Heavy duty book bag or backpack
  3. Several sharpened #2 pencils
  4. Pen -- black or blue
  5. Eraser
  6. Lined notebook paper
  7. Colored pencils
  8. Spiral Notebook (used as journal/left in class)
  9. Binder Reminder
  10. Optional: pencil pouch, hole punch, scissors, glue or glue stick, highlighters

Gold ArrowBOOKS: Textbooks will be used in class. You must also have a book of your choice for reading independently (SSR: Sustained Silent Reading) in class daily. This may come from a personal collection or the public library. Remember, a library card is FREE! I also have an extensive classroom library and we will make weekly visits to the IMS Library. You are required to have signed permission to check out books from the IMS Library as well as the classroom library.
