Teacher's GIS Survey Diary

the location

We began on th patio and moved out into the Oaks. Second point of reference was the start of the horse trail. Then onto a creek and to the fruit orchard.

At each point students sat down the GPS satalitte receiver - opened up the portable computer, let the satalitte link get established and then write down the three readings we are taking, (latitude, longitude and elevation).

As we progress through the next few months we'll increase the number of points we have latitude, longitude and elevation readings for.

We've made a simple MS Access database that lists each of the three readings we are taking plus gives a field notes on the location. Out of the MS Access database (a .dbf file) we will begin building a GIS map of our area.
