Teaching
and Learning Services Provided To Every Camp Internet Outpost
Every
classroom, afterschool program, or library that enrolls in Camp Internet
will set up their site as an official 'Camp Internet Outpost'. Each
site receives a custom package of training, online services, and materials
to support their participation - and to enhance the specific learning
track that each Outpost selects.
Online
Programs - Core Element for Every Teacher and Class
The
core of Camp Internet's services are the unique online learning resources
that weave together the history, natural science, art, and literature
in regional, national, and global focus themes. The value of using these
resources is that they integrate technology in to the curriculum naturally,
they provide a safe harbor online for research, and they make available
rare and first-ever on the Internet resources that cannot be found anywhere
else online. Plus, the online content encourages responsible student
use of interactive learning environments. Students are not just 'viewers',
they read, write, think, conduct research, publish their research online,
and learn to behave responsibly in an online group learning environment.

Training
- Highly Recommended for All Teachers
Every
year, the Camp Internet program starts with pre-session training for
our Outpost Leaders (teachers, lab directors, afterschool program coordinators,
or librarians). This workshop will prepare the Leader to return to their
site and immediately begin using the online and hands-on resources with
their class or group. Leaders will learn to use the online Camp content,
the unique interactive features like Internet Digs, or Trail Guide Chats,
and will go on a field study trip to learn how to use a GPS or digital
camera and then return to the computer lab to publish their findings
online. Each teacher gains new teaching and technology skills that enrich
their professional development.
Teachers
and librarians can join us for either a 2 or 3 day summer or fall session
at a computer lab near a historic location with important field study
resources, or, school districts can arrange for consecutive or modular
3 day sessions summer, fall or winter at their site with a one day field
trip to a local resource. All Outpost Leaders also have access to a
complete online professional development program as part of their core
subscription.
Toolkit

Every
Outpost Leader will receive a Camp Backpack chock full of great learning
supplies. The Backpack a GPS, Digital Camera or Scanner & a Camp

ROMs, t shirts and additional supplies as needed.
Family
Involvement
Every
month Camp Internet hosts an online FAMILY NIGHT that brings
the parents and students together to learn about the fascinating themes
on Camp Internet, and to familiarize parents with the value of educational
technologies. For some parents, this is their first time in a room with
a computer. The sessions take place online, and many teachers or librarians
arrange to open the doors of their classrooms to bring families on to
campus or into the library and invite local community members as well.
These session build parent support for technology, encourage community-wide
recognition of the innovations taking place at your school or library,
and the parents are so proud to see their student's mastery of these
new technologies. These are great nights to build family pride!
Families
also participate by serving as computer mentors, taking time out of
their busy month to come in and serve as a computer guide for the students.
Others help arrange field trips to local parks, or participate as chaperones
on field trips to exciting remote learning locations. Field trips are
option, and are encouraged. Camp has taken students on trips to Yosemite,
Catalina, Anacapa and Santa Cruz Islands, to Indian Canyons in Palm
Springs and to Joshua Trees National Park, to Santa Barbara area museums,
and has taken teachers to Malibu Creek and Lagoon and the Huntington
Gardens in recent years.
At
Camp Internet, we are Turning Technology into Learning For Teachers,
Students and Families !
