Program Highlights

Camp Internet is one of the oldest online learning centers in the United States. Teaching and Learning take place throughout the year in an online environment that has been successfully used by over 22,000 4th-12th grade students. 

Working with a project and activity centered framework, Camp curriculum leverages technology as a springboard which encourages online, classroom, and real-world, hands-on learning experiences that integrate knowledge at the body and mind levels.

In a nutshell, Camp Internet provides stimulating online content, but not as an end in itself – the content / curriculum is used as a tool for students working on classroom and real world, hands on projects.

Bring the Real World into the Classroom – and the

Classroom out into the Real World with Technology’.

The three main activities which are always happening within Camp Internet:

  1. ONLINE RESEARCH     First, teachers select specific Camp Internet online resources to focus student attention. They then select from motivating assignments that require students to read, research, write and communicate online using Camp Internet’s self-contained history, social studies, art, literature and science tools. Students gain familiarity with using the Internet to search and locate original sources materials and to read E- books and excerpts from never-before-on-the-Internet first edition and rare books. They learn to navigate GIS maps, to participate in interactive chat sessions with teachers, and are given an opportunity to become responsible,  productive participants in an online learning community.

  1. FIELD STUDY and RESEARCH PROJECTS     Second, teachers select a field or research project that they can do in their classroom or library, on the schools grounds or in the school garden, out in the local community, or on a special thematic field trip. Students are challenged to identify a specific research or project goal, to record their work and observations, experiences, and findings based on astute observations and research work. They then compile a FIELD REPORT that will create a measurable outcome reflecting the hands-on component of their Camp Internet activities.

  1. STUDENT ONLINE SHOWCASE     Third, teachers and students come online to publish their research findings or hands-on projects that tie into their original online study projects.  In these online student showcases, a student may publish an essay, a book report, a poem, an artwork, a science experiment finding, a field trip discovery, a school ground GPS study, a garden harvest report, or other project-based learning experience. At Camp Internet, students are not merely ‘passive’ readers of online content – they are challenged to create their own content, to be become active and responsible contributors to an interactive learning community.
