Camp
Internet in the Classroom
Challenge
: to find positive, educational activities on the
Internet that offer unique learning opportunities not previously
available in traditional print or media. To offer these activities
in a safe, secure environment that promotes socially responsible
use of the Internet, and links student to experts in the real
world who serve as beneficial role models.
Solution
: Every Camp Teacher sets up a Camp Internet Outpost
in their classroom to focus student attention on this exciting
learning opportunity. The computers in the class and the lab
serve as gateways to learning expeditions unmatched by any
other learning experience. Students learn to 1. Access Information
using technology tools, 2. Learn to Turn that Information
into Knowledge using interactive online and hands-on learning
activities, and then 3. Students are empowered to Share their
Knowledge using online communication tools – Field Reports,
GIS maps and Web Projects.
Program
Highlights: Internet Digs – guided online
learning explorations where students publish their findings
real time; Trail Guide Chats – a great opportunity
to learn from live guests online from museums, universities
and science or history centers; GIS Mapping
projects that send students out into their own neighborhood
or school yard with a GPS unit to gather data and practice
alert observation; Family Nights – parent involvement
open house events that bring the generations together to see
technology in action as a safe and beneficial tool; Year-end
Field Trips to locations that have been studied all
year long and now come to life in guided learning adventures.
