The standard Internet Mapping Server user interface looks like this:

The
layers list is located on the right hand side of the screen. It has two options for each layer, a visible
box and an active button. After
pressing either of these options hit the refresh button to update your
map. A layer must be active for a tool
to work on elements of that layer. The
tool bar is located on the left side of the screen. To see the name and description of what a tool does hover your
mouse over the tool icon. Write the
names of the tools below. A box appears
around the tool icon that is active.
What tool is active?

Experiment with the legend/layers list button. Turn the overview map on and off. Zoom in and out. What is the difference between the “zoom to full extent” button and “zoom to active layer” button? Pan around the map using all different pan buttons.
The query button is very useful but also a bit more complicated.
The query box is located at the bottom of the screen. When you search the data this is where the results appear.

In the layers list make the theme you want information about active- “plants in vegetable garden” for example. In the query box chose the field you are interested in, “plant name” for example. Then hit “get samples” button. Scroll to find what you want and hit “add to query string. After you hit “execute” details about your plant will appear at the bottom.

Try this process several times to answer the following questions relating to the garden.
Note the bold word, that is the field name you need to use.
Which plant has yellow flowers?
Which plant’s condition mentions “bug bites?”
Which plant has grown 4-5 feet tall ? (size)
What plant has green fruits?
What plant has a note that it is growing “around the garden perimeter?”
What plants have only one individual plants in the garden? (number)
