Ancient Southwest BriefingJanuary 7-11, 2002 Welcome Back Campers – this month we are will complete our features on Ancient Peoples of the southwest and to start off, we have a BRAND NEW feature on the truly remarkable Chaco Canyon. We will also visit the hardly known but largest city in the Ancient Southwest, a site now in Northern Mexico, and will learn about the mythic ‘Race of Giants’ and their rock art in Baja California as we study south of the border. Plus we have new units on Pueblo Trade Routes and the Mimbres to enjoy. Then we will wrap up the month by pondering “Where DID They Go?”. Your Digs will be on Chaco, Paquime, Baja Rock Art and Where Did They Go ?This month we are also offering Day Two GPS field trips that can also be refresher training days with trips to the Huntington Gardens, Santa Barbara for a Low tide Walk, or to Malibu. See the News and Events link on the main portal for dates and places. If you have student projects or teacher reports on activities to post as your Fall Field Report, please let us know and we can open that posting area for you by appointment anytime. And now is the time to start planning your Winter and Spring student projects as we will have a year end Field Report activity in May. We also have suggested field trips available in the new News and Events section (first selection) and welcome news of other field trip locations you recommend to your fellow teachers. Hands on classroom and community-based learning offer our students a way to bring their online learning to life so please plan at least one of each for the coming months. Please also plan ahead to participate in the next Family Night – January 31st – on Astronomy.
