Camp Internet Global Weather Project - Lat.:34.422 Lon:-119.683 -

Camp Internet Students have taken part in a Global Weather Monitoring Projects sponsored by Nasa in past years. The project involved collecting data daily and reporting that data Daily using the template included in the activity description. The more DATA POINTS (Schools/Homeschoolers) involved, the more reliable the results. RAIN sponsored the first HomeSchool group working with NASA as well as the first "Virtual" schoolhouse to join the project.

For the Year 2001 Camp Weather Project students will be gathering data and reporting weather observations on the Camp's Weather Field Report form to build their own GIS based weather maps.

The results of the Camp Weather Project are:
  • Improved student literacy reading directions and typing reports
  • Improved science skills through the exercise of Observation, Recording what is observed and entering that information into an online database by using an online form.
  • Use of a database to record observations
  • Basic Geography Skills - gathering latitude and longitude and appling information gathered to those geographic coordinates to generate a map
  • Participation in the creation of the GIS map
  • Team Work - working together as a class to gather information for their Expedition Outpost

  • Bringing GIS, GPS, general weather observations while learning to use and record information from the Expedition Weather Station unit each classroom has has received is the goal of this project.

The data will be transformed into a series of weather maps which students will be able to analyze.

Check in often. This is a dynamic, on-going project with new data comming in daily.
