are there so many different types of fish living around the Channel Islands? |
| The
answer is that two very different currents meet at the Channel Islands and
circle around , creating a 'gyre'. This brings warm tropical waters and
fish up from Mexico, and cold, arctic waters and animals down from Alaska.
When they meet at the Channel Islands, many fish and mammals you wouldn't
see together come to share the same waters at the islands. This provided
an abundant food supply for thousands of years of native island life. |
