There
are eight Channel Islands off the coast of Southern California.
The
Chumash lived on the northern Islands and mainland from Malibu up to San
Luis Obispo and in inland valleys and mountains. The Gabrielino lived
on the southern islands, inland in the Los Angeles, San Gabriel and San
Fernando Valleys, and along the coast from Malibu in the north the Laguna
Beach in the south.
