The California Backcountry exists because huge GEOLOGIC FORCES have been shaping these remote areas, created mountain ranges, volcanoes, deserts, rivers and lakes. The very nature of the Backcountry is that it is a rugged environment not as easily inhabited by humans, and therefore less disturbed by human presence. What makes it so rugged ? GEOLOGY! And what peoples knew how to live in balance with this rugged geology? Native Americans. In this DIG we will explore California Geology and the Miwok Indians, and how geology shaped Miwok legends.
