Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 7:39AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Welcome to the Camp Internet Expedition Field Report on Anacapa Island. Our TRAIL GUIDES today are students from the Indio Middle School Classrooms of Mrs. Perez. On May 1st, Indio Middle ventured out to Anacapa for an exciting day of science, history, and literature hands-on learning. The classes had read Island of the Blue Dolphins nad Treasure Island as part of their Camp Internet learning program, and this trip brought many natural sicence and hisotrical aspects of those classic stories to life. Camp has recently learned that Robert Louis Stevenson actually based Treasure Island's landscapes on the California coast, and Scott O'Dells retelling of the Lone Woman of San Nicolas Island is read by students acrosss the country every year. Now, let's learn from our Indio Middle School TRAIL GUIDES ...

Indio Middle Explorers - please report back to us on the following observations : What was the weather during your expedition ? What animals did you see on the crossing over to the island ? What plants did you see on the island ? Did you see any birds, animals, or reptiles on the island ? If so, what kind and what were they doing ? What did you learn about the Native Americans who used to visit the island ? Did you have a chance to see any sea creatures upclose ? .........And in closing ............. What was the most AMAZING thing that you saw or experienced that day ?

Yes we did see animals such as birds, seals and reptiles. We saw western gulls, seals, sea lions, sea otters, dolphins, and lizards. My favorite animals were the dolphins, sea otters, and the seals. I wish that we could go back since I now know that animals that are as beautiful as the ones we have seen on the island and in the water.

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 8:08AM PST (-0800 GMT)
IMS - great web site and good to hear the written voices of students turning their experiences into online field reports. Your photographs are excellent and it makes an outstanding virtual tour of the Island. Congratulations !

Jade,IMS-1: . . . . Fri, May 12, 8:08AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Yes, we did see animals. We saw seagulls and pelicans flying around, some seals laying around and jellyfish wandering. There were a few lizards running around and we saw seagull eggs.We also saw dolphins jumping inand out of the water and some on the side of the boat trying to race us. They were all so cute. I wish that we could go again and see the animals and everything we saw on the island. It was so much fun to go to the island.

Ashley,IMS-1: . . . . Fri, May 12, 8:11AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Some plants we saw on Monday, May 1st were The Indian Paintbrush, The Ice Plant, Coreopsis, seaweed, kelp and lots of others. We learned a lot about the plants that we saw and we had lots of fun!

Nicholle, IMS-1: . . . . Fri, May 12, 8:12AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The weather on Monday,May 1st was wonderful! The sun was shining, not very many clouds in the sky,and there was a nice cool breeze that was blowing that made you feel like you were floating in the sky. But on the boat it was even better. There were many birds and a variety of animals bathing on this nice day,and they gave us some beautiful memories to remember. But some of us got just a little chilly on the boat, because that cool breeze was blowing just a bit faster than it was and our hair was all over the place. When we got to the island it got a little warm, but it still was very nice.Walking along the island and loooking at all of the beautiful sights,it was just breathe taking. We had a wonderful time and the weather was fabulous, and from reading this I hope that your trip will be just as wonderful as it was for us.

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 8:30AM PST (-0800 GMT)
IMS - who lives on the island these days ?

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 8:31AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Did anyone see bird eggs up close ? What kind were they and what color and size ? Why do you think they were so easy to see ?

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 8:32AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Are there any mammals on the island ? What mammals did you see out in the water ?

Erica, IMS-1: . . . . Fri, May 12, 8:39AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Yes, we did see animals up close. We saw dolphins on our way back from the trip. One of our trail guides showed us kinds of sea stars, one sea urchin , sea slugs, and a sea mollusk. On our way to Anacapa, we saw about 50 jellyfish!

Erica, IMS-1: . . . . Fri, May 12, 8:41AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The ranger and his daughter now live on Anacapa.

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 8:44AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Tell us more about the jellyfish and then we will tell you an amazing jellyfish story told to us by another Camp Trail Guide .....

Kevin, IMS-1: . . . . Fri, May 12, 8:49AM PST (-0800 GMT)
On Monday, May 1st, We saw sea gulls nesting by the trail. We also saw dolphins hunting for fish. Some seals were playing in the water. We saw a lot of jellyfish by the boat.

Did you see any sea creates?

John, IMS-1: . . . . Fri, May 12, 9:09AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Yes, I did see seagull eggs up close. They were brown with black speckles. They were right by the trail in a dried grass nest. I got a good picture of them.

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 9:09AM PST (-0800 GMT)
IMS - what was the size and aproximate number of jelly fish you saw ? What were their colors, if any ? What were they doing and where were they when you spotted them ?

: . . . . Fri, May 12, 9:10AM PST (-0800 GMT)
HELLO!

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 9:10AM PST (-0800 GMT)
John - why do you think the sea gulls would build nests along the trails on the island when they do not on the mainland ? How is the island differnet than the mainland to allow for this ?

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 9:13AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Did anybody see one of these on the trip ? button

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 9:14AM PST (-0800 GMT)
How about one of these ? If so, what are they called ? button

Robert, IMS-1: . . . . Fri, May 12, 9:14AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The most amazing thing I saw was a sea urchin. The sea urchin was small and had a lot pointy spikes. On the end of the spikes there were eyes and on the some of the spikes there were leg. To me it looked like a ball with a lot of spikes. I never would have thought that some thing like that even existed in the water or in the world today. The sea urchin was a sea creature I would never forget for as long as I live. Now I know why they say they saved the best for last. Anacapa has some of the most neatest sea creatures.

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 9:15AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Do you think this is a plant ? a flower / or an animal ? button

Sintia, IMS-1: . . . . Fri, May 12, 9:15AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The most amazing thing I ever saw was the black sand. There was black sand on the side of the sea shore. It looked smooth and cool. The black sand is in very few places. I'd like to know in what type of places it is in besides Anacapa.

Michelle, IMS-1: . . . . Fri, May 12, 9:15AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The most AMAZING thing I saw when I was out on AMAZING Anacapa Island trip that day, May first, was the Cathedral Cove. It was just beautiful out there. That was probably one of the most beautiful places in the world. I hope that I am able to go there again soon!! Another AMAZING place that I saw on our AMAZING Anacapa trip was the Island Vista. When we first got to the island, you could not walk across the Island Vista because of the high tide. But, in the afternoon, it was very low tide, so you could just walk right across the Island Vista. I just wanted to go and walk right across the Island Vista. It was also a very beautiful scenary. I liked the island very much, and I hope that I can come back sometime soon with all of my family!!

John, IMS-1: . . . . Fri, May 12, 9:16AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Hi, Pod 2 -- The boat ride was fun because it was a little bit rough. I think you will have a lot of fun on the way there. I bet you will see a lot of jellyfish and maybe a pod of whales.

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 9:18AM PST (-0800 GMT)
What color star fish did you see ? any like this ? button

Mrs. Glenn/Oro Grande: . . . . Fri, May 12, 9:21AM PST (-0800 GMT)
IMS What is the cement Pad on the island there for?

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 9:21AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Sintia .. the black sands are made by the sea beating against volcanic rock... when the Islands were formed, part of their geologic process was volcanic - yes - that means they were volcanoes at one time. When Camp went to Hawaii last year, we saw other black volcanic sand beaches. In fact, the Big Island of Hawaii is STILL an active volcano, much like Anacapa was many tens of thousand of years ago. If black sands come from volcanic rock, what do white sands come from ? Can you guess ?

Ana Roa and Diana 6th Oro grande Elem.: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:01AM PST (-0800 GMT)
When we went to Catalina a seagull was tapping on the window all it wanted was some food. Did anything like that happen to you guys.

Mrs. Perez, IMS -- Lucky Us!!: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:01AM PST (-0800 GMT)
We realized we were very lucky when we arrived at Ventura Harbor and the weather was so beautiful. When I went to Anacapa last August, it was quite cold & stormy the second half of the day so I didn't know what to expect in May. Then when we got to the island and saw all the beautiful wildflowers which we were told only bloom for about 2 weeks each year, I knew we were even luckier. What a contrast to the dry, brown island I had seen before. I hope Mrs. Gallatin's and Mrs. Bloomquist's classes from Madison School have a great experience like ours next Monday.

Alex,Aline Oro grande : . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:05AM PST (-0800 GMT)
When we went to Catalina we got to hold A Sea hair. When you got to Ana Capa did you get to hold anything?

Ana Roa and Diana 6th Oro grande Elem.: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:09AM PST (-0800 GMT)
About how many days are you guys staying there?

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:12AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Trinicia and Tiffany - at Catalina I remember seeing the Sea Hare laying its eggs - it looked like many many strands of spaghetti floating in the water. Did you get to see the eels ?

Ana Roa and Diana 6th Oro grande Elem.: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:12AM PST (-0800 GMT)
We saw moray eels in Catalina the moray eels have difficulty seeing.

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:13AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Oro Grande - what things do you think Catalina and Yosemite have in common ? think about geology, plants, animals, and people ...

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:13AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Ana Rosa and Diana - what is dangerous about the moray eel ?

Trinica,Tiffany from Oro Grande.: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:14AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The sea lions have ears and seals have flaps and a nother difference is that the seal scoots and the sea lion walks on his two front flippers.

: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:16AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Great job, IMS students! Ms. Mendenhall

Shae IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:16AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Hi this is Shae do you have any questions?

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:16AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Speaking of sea cucumbers .. here is a picture of one ... button ....... what do you think the bright orange is ?

: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:17AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Hi,what is your favorite animal, mine are the sea hair.I like the way they squirt out ink when they feel threatend.I also like the way the cucumber spits out its vital orgens when it is scared. Also how it is a good defence, cause it lets the preditor eat the orgens instead of him and it is able to get away. Then it grows the orgens back.

Payal, IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:17AM PST (-0800 GMT)
We didn't stay for a few days, it was just a one-day trip. It was really exhausting, because we had to be ready and at school by 4:15a.m. and then we barely got home at 9:30.

Charlotte, IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:17AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The jellyfish we saw were very interesting. There were so many. Some of them were really small, but others ones we saw seemed like they were 5 feet long!!!!

: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:17AM PST (-0800 GMT)
I thought the photos were of amazing quality, and your written information was outstanding. Thanks to Mrs. Perez for the tireless work on this project! Ms. Mendenhall

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:17AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Shae - if you put a large number, like 150, in the scroll back box then click on 'chat', you will see lots of questions waiting answers above. Then post your answers at the bottom of the screen in the box ... thanks

Shae IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:18AM PST (-0800 GMT)
I think th bright orange is it`s insides.

: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:18AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Hi, Shae! Did you just see that great picture of the sea anemone?

Shae IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:19AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Thanks

Elysia, IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:19AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Hello Mrs. Mendenhall. How are you? Have any questions for us?

Shae IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:19AM PST (-0800 GMT)
No I did not.

: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:20AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Hi Elysia, Yes, I wonder if you think this has helped you practice writing in addition to learning about science? I have been impressed by the essays you guys have done

Elysia, IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:21AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Thing I liked the most about Anacapa were all the animals, especially the dolphins!

Payal, IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:21AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The thing I liked most about Anacapa was definetly the dolphins. It seemed like they were almost racing the boat, while we were heading back to Ventura.

Shae IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:22AM PST (-0800 GMT)
I liked the scenery most about the island.

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:23AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Here is a jellyfish story from another Trail Guide from Naitonal Geographic .. Dr. Sylvia Earle was down beneath the sea in a one person submersible. She turned off the engine ..... shut off the lights ..... expecting to be in complete darkness ... and she was, at first ...... THEN, all of a sudden, the seawater outside began to glow with luminous light .... the light was so bright she could see her instrumentation panels but she had no lights on inside. IT WAS a STRING of JELLYFISH all linked together for over a hundered feet !!! .. glowing .. and pulsing .... and GIVING LIGHT to the otherwise blackness beneath the sea. She was mesmerized ..... can you IMAGINE ??

Charlotte, IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:23AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Sorry Trinica & Tiffany, we didn't see any whales. On the trip back though, there were dolphins following the front of the boat.

Shae IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:23AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Hi Mrs. Mendenhall how are you doing?

Shae IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:24AM PST (-0800 GMT)
That is really cool about the jellyfish!

Elysia, IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:25AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Yes, I believe it has helped me practice writing and also learning about science. I love science now after going to Anacapa and learning so many intresting facts!

Payal, IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:26AM PST (-0800 GMT)
No we didn't see any eels but we did get to see Sea Hares.

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:27AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Elysia and Payal - did you know people are learning to communicate with dolphins ? They have large brains and good communciation skills among themselves, so people are trying to find ways to communicate with them. There is a scientific dolphin communication project in Hawaii right now. If you could speak to the dolphins - what would you say ?

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:27AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Does anyone know if the Chumash lived on Anacpa ?

Shae IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:28AM PST (-0800 GMT)
They did live on Anacapa.

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:30AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Here are the great sea life pictures from the UC Berkeley digital library - can you name them ? button ......button ......button ... and did anyone see these on Anacapa or Catalina ?

Payal, IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:30AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Since they are my favorite animal, I would probably ask them how to make the world a better habitat for them and their other marine mammal friends.

Elysia, IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:30AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Well, if I could speak to dolphins I would ask them their opinion on how we can make the ocean a better place for them to live in.

Charlotte, IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:30AM PST (-0800 GMT)
I personally liked the starfish we got to hold.

Payal, IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:30AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Yes, the Chumash did live in Anacapa.

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:33AM PST (-0800 GMT)
When it was the Ice Age, there was less water in the ocean... and the sea level was lower. This put Anacapa just 5 miles from the mainland. What animals do you think swam out to Anacpapa, and then crossed to the other islands ? here is a hint ......button

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:34AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Elysia - good dolphin questions ... waht do you think their answer would be ?

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:35AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Shae and Payal - here is a tricky question .. think about this ... there was no fresh water on Anacapa for the Chumash who came there ... so how did they survive when they were there ?

Elysia, IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:38AM PST (-0800 GMT)
There answer would probably be by not polluting it so much.

Carla,IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:48AM PST (-0800 GMT)
If I could talk to the dolphins, I wold ask them if they would introduce me to the other sea creatures.

Cinthia IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:48AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Hi my name is Cinthia Ruiz. How are you?

Carolina, IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:50AM PST (-0800 GMT)
If I could talk dolphins I would say, "Hi my name is Carolina and I want to be your friend . I also say how does it feel to live in the water.

Espy, IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:51AM PST (-0800 GMT)
If I could talk to dolphins, I would probably make friends with them and introduce myself. I think it would be lots of fun to learn dolphin language.

Carla,IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:51AM PST (-0800 GMT)
If you could go to the island what would you like to see the most.

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 10:53AM PST (-0800 GMT)

Carla - out on San Nicolas Island, where the Lone Woman from Island of the Blue Dolphins lived, there is a mysterious cave with rock art of whales ... I think it would be fasicnating if we could ever see that ... here is a link to information about a magic 'singing' stone that is imbedded in the cave's front entrance .... button

Cinthia IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 11:46AM PST (-0800 GMT)

The weather was perfect, no fog, no rain, and no wind. We saw Seals, Dolphins, Jelly Fish, and Sea Lions.

Cinthia IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 11:54AM PST (-0800 GMT)
We didn't see any sea animals on the way crossing over to the island. On the way back we did. We saw dolphins and sea lions on our way back though.

Cinthia IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 12:00AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The most amazing thing we saw were dolphins. Have any one of you gone to Anacapa Island?

Espy, IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 12:01AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The most amazing thing that I experienced, was when we were on our way back, we saw a bunch of dolphins. Since dolphins are my favorite animal, I thought it was really neat. I had never seen a dolphin out of Sea World before, so I thought it was really cool. I was just wondering, since you work over there, do you get to see dolphins every day?

Carolina & Yvette, IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 12:04AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Carolina: I could imagine that and it will be so cool to do that! Yvette:I can but I don't want to

Espy, IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 12:12AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Yes, I can imagine What it would be like to be under the sea, and no lights on, it would be horrible!!! I think it would be a neat experiance and all, but I don't think that that's really for me. Who knows, maybe I might change my mind in a few years. Have you ever done something like that?

Carolina, IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 12:17AM PST (-0800 GMT)
I think the bright orange is to pertect it from predetors.

Espy, IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 12:18AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Some of the colors of starfish that we saw, were: blue, white, and I think, a light brownish type of color.

Carla,IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 12:18AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The sea hair spits out it's organs.

Alexandra, IMS-3: . . . . Fri, May 12, 12:31AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The weather was hot! There was a cool breeze every once in a while, but almost everyone who didn't wear sun block got burned. I know my face got really red, and I felt like I was dying.

Margarita, IMS-3: . . . . Fri, May 12, 12:34AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The most amazing thing I saw was when we were heading back to the mainland an dolphins were swiming right next to the boat! They looked sooo beautiful! It was like they were flying I also saw a whale I couldn't identify it though.

Alexandra, IMS-3: . . . . Fri, May 12, 12:37AM PST (-0800 GMT)
We learned about the Chumash that use to live on the island. They lived off of abolone, fish, and other seafood. We learned a little about their pottery, and we also learned that they used a lot of kelp. The Chumash survived in a very interesting place, with the weather, the beautiful plants, and flowers.

Renier, IMS-3: . . . . Fri, May 12, 12:39AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Yes, we did see sea creatures, like jellyfish, dolphins, sealions, seals, mollusks, ecinoderm and many differnt kinds of fish

Erin, IMS-3: . . . . Fri, May 12, 12:39AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The animals that I saw crossing the island were dolphins, jellyfish, seal, seagulls, sealions and fish. The animals were all so amazing! We learned all about the animals.

Margarita, IMS-3: . . . . Fri, May 12, 12:39AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The plants that I saw were coriopsis, the indian paintbrush and the icis plant. The park rangers were planing to totally remove that plant from Anacapa because it's like a weed it stores lots of water and takes over everything. It has very pretty flowers though.

Margarita, IMS-3: . . . . Fri, May 12, 12:40AM PST (-0800 GMT)

The most amazing thing I saw were the dolphins, seals, and sea lions. The seals and sea lions were soooo cute! They looked like big hairy dogs. The dolphins were the most beautiful creatures I have ever seen, though. They looked like they were just gliding underwater, it was such a beautiful sight.

Margarita, IMS-3: . . . . Fri, May 12, 12:42AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The only animal I saw really up close were the dolphins.

Renier, IMS-3: . . . . Fri, May 12, 12:43AM PST (-0800 GMT)
We saw many different kinds of birds, like seagullsand pelicans.

The only animal I saw going to the island were seals.

Erin, IMS-3: . . . . Fri, May 12, 12:45AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The weather was nice when we got there, but when we started on our trail it was very hot. On the boat it was just perfect. There was a nice cool breeze on the boat. I wish the weather was so bad that we would have to stay on the island for days!

Renier, IMS-3: . . . . Fri, May 12, 12:46AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The only animal I saw were jelly fish.

Alexandra, IMS-3: . . . . Fri, May 12, 12:47AM PST (-0800 GMT)
We saw some seagull eggs, they were like a light greyish color with green spots. They were about an inch or two bigger than a chicken's egg. Sometimes they were hard to see because the mother was sitting on them or wouldn't let us see them. One gull tried diving down on someone, but it didn't suceed.

Margarita, IMS-3: . . . . Fri, May 12, 12:49AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The weather on Anacapa was beautiful! Not like here on Indio. There was a slight breeze and lots of sun. When we were on the trail it was hot, but on the boat it was fresh. I got cold 'cause I got sea water all over myself.

Daniel, IMS-3: . . . . Fri, May 12, 12:56AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The weather was hot on the island, but in the ocean it was very cold and windy.

CHARLY IMS-3: . . . . Fri, May 12, 12:58AM PST (-0800 GMT)

Then when we were leaving we went around Arch Rock, and there was this rock with these families of sea lions they were all over the place some in the sea some on the rock and on booies.

Gilbert, IMS-3: . . . . Fri, May 12, 1:17PM PST (-0800 GMT)
The only peaple that live on the island was a ranger who was in charge of the lighthouse and his daughter.

CHARLY IMS-3: . . . . Fri, May 12, 1:18PM PST (-0800 GMT)
Actually I didn't see any reptiles, thats why on Anacapa theres so much seagulls laying there egg's and theres no prederters that eat them or there egg's.

Nathan, IMS-3: . . . . Fri, May 12, 1:21PM PST (-0800 GMT)
The jellyfish that we saw were all different sizes. I saw some that were really huge and some that were small. It looked like we ran over a lot of them though. Some of them were near the surface and some were hard to see. There was a ton of jellyfish there.

Daniel, IMS-3: . . . . Fri, May 12, 1:22PM PST (-0800 GMT)

Stanford, IMS-3: . . . . Fri, May 12, 1:59PM PST (-0800 GMT)
The picture posted at 9:13 a.m. is a Sea Anemone. The small looking arms are very sticky. That is how they eat their prey. The food gets stuck on one of those arms and then begins to pull the enemy towards that hole. The hole in the middle of its body is its mouth. All of the arms begin to close on the creature and slowly start swallowing the enemy. The sea Anemone has lots of little shell particles on its back to protect itself from other enemies that want to eat him.

Jellyfish, the weather was really nice when we went to Anacapa. It was hot when we went on the hike at first, but then it got really nice. On the way home it was windy and cold, but it was still really fun because we saw the dolphins.

Stanford, IMS-3: . . . . Fri, May 12, 2:12PM PST (-0800 GMT)
Hi dolphin group, this is your old president stanford speaking. To answer your question, we saw dolphins and little signs of whale sprouts. The dolphins were simming right beside us and under the boat. It was an awsome sight. They were swimming as fast as us,some were even swimming faster. They were only with us four about five minutes.

Charlotte, IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 2:16PM PST (-0800 GMT)
There are a lot of different kinds of animals in the island. Most of them were sea creatures or flying animals because there was no fresh water sorce accessable to the animals on the island.

Charlotte, IMS-2: . . . . Fri, May 12, 2:19PM PST (-0800 GMT)
We didn't have any tramatic things happen on the trip.

Camp Internet Expedition Headquarters: . . . . Fri, May 12, 2:27PM PST (-0800 GMT)
