Hello, I'm Mrs. Markos and we went to S.B. Museum of Natural History and sea center at Santa Barbara Pier. We could not go out on the boat to the island because of a small craft advisory.

Hi Sean - life in the Channel Islands area is always effected by the weather. When the water is choppy you see white little caps on it. That means that out at the islands there are huge waves and dips in the water.... and not only is it a rough and dangerous ride, you can't get off the boat when you get to the dock. So, its always up to the Captain to decide if its safe to go out. We of course are sorry you hit a bad weather day - but - NO BOATS went out last week - the weatherwas bad all week ......

Did anybody from Oaks see the Santa Barbara Mission last week ? Did you know that is where the woman from the real 'Lone Woman of San Nicolas Island' story is buried ? When she was brought to the mainland she was invited to live with the sea captains wife in Santa Barbara. Her life is told in Island of the Blue Dolphins. Have any of you read that ? Or seen the film ?

Brown Pelicans - How much rain do you need to have to get the flowers to bloom ? ..... we would liek to record that on a GIS map for you ..... out in your area we had a class go to Joshua Trees this week on the 16th. They reported that the upper desert has lots of flowers up there ... if you know anyone heading that way tell them to be on the look out ...

We didn't see the lighthouse at night, so we do not know if the light is bright. You cannot walk close to the lighthouse, because of the loud fog horn.

Did you all know that one of the displays at the Natural History Museum that shows the Chumash on the beach bluff, is of our own Hendry's (Arroyo Burro) beach? I swim at that beach every year, and it's kinda strange to think that those same Chumash camped on that very same beach!
