Vincent Jason: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:19PM PST (-0800 GMT)
What do you guys think was the most interesting thing on Catalina Island?
Sharese Hill: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:19PM PST (-0800 GMT)
1. Well it has been fine so far. On the way here the boat ride got a little cold but it's been good.
darion: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:19PM PST (-0800 GMT)
it was the sharks
Ernesto: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:20PM PST (-0800 GMT)
I learned that foxes are dissapearing on Catalina Island. No one knows why.And we saw many sharks
darion: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:21PM PST (-0800 GMT)
how did you like the weather Jason
jessica: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:22PM PST (-0800 GMT)
I HAVE LEARNED ABOUT THE DIFFRENT TYPES OF PLANTS THAT ONLY GROW ON CATILINA,ONE OF THE PLANTS IS LIKE A GREEN YELLOW BROWN PLANT.
Marcy, Camp Counselor: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:23PM PST (-0800 GMT)
Ernesto and company - where did you see the sharks ?
darion: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:24PM PST (-0800 GMT)
do you think that scat is a good word for people to say when you have to use the bathroom
Colleen/Autumn/Nicole: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:25PM PST (-0800 GMT)
Hi! How are you doing? When we went on the hike we saw some scat and the fox potty grounds. We also saw musterdflowers and saltbudsh.THe most enteresting part was when we saw the eels.I almost for got the trip heer! The trip was good, some people got ssea sick.We saw a lot of common dolphins, they allmost got runnover!
Marcy, Camp Counselor: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:25PM PST (-0800 GMT)
Students - The cove you see at the bottom of the Wrigley dock area - we learned on our visit last year that you can see the rock from the volcano that created Catalina - and the ash that fell during the explosion - plus the sediment from the thousands of years it was all under water. Check it out ! You are on an extinct volcano !! Try to find out just what made the volcano form and erupt - its something that isn't even there anymore ....
Ernesto: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:26PM PST (-0800 GMT)
A man just dumped fish water in the ocean and like about a dozen eels came towhere it was.The man held up some fish and the eels just came came out and atethem. That was the most amamazing.
darion: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:27PM PST (-0800 GMT)
in catalina
Colleen/Autumn/Nicole: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:27PM PST (-0800 GMT)
darion-No I dont like that word,it sonds wierd.
Marcy, Camp Counselor: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:27PM PST (-0800 GMT)
Scientifically speaking, scat is what a carnivore (meat eating) animal spits back up that they can't digest - the fur and bones of the little creatures they eat for dinner). In other words - it comes up from their stomach and out their mouth !!
Brittany : . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:28PM PST (-0800 GMT)
The weather today is hot. Out on the sea we saw dolphins and a dead Monteray fish. When we got to the land we walked with our leader. On the nature hike we saw bones of a dolphin or a minuture whale. We saw many different plants and even got to taste them too! to list a few plants like salt plants, mustard bush and fennel it tasted and smelled like black licrice. I heard a rattle snake and reacted calmly. The most amazing thing I have learned about is that if you hear a rattle snake react calmly.
Sharese Hill: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:28PM PST (-0800 GMT)
I have learned that there are different kinds of plants for example there is the salt bush, the musterd bush, and the fennel. I have also learned that there are a lot of ways that the plants grow in different places.
Marcy, Camp Counselor: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:29PM PST (-0800 GMT)
What is the boat like you came over on ? Did you get to use any of the lab equipment yet ? and what teacher is with you right now ? Say hello for us ....
Brittany : . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:30PM PST (-0800 GMT)
The class that I represent is Truman Middle School.
Jason: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:30PM PST (-0800 GMT)
I learned that not only land or air animals are nocturnal. I didn't think that they would be ones like that near the surface of the water.
jessica: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:30PM PST (-0800 GMT)
there are lots of plants that are eddible.like the salt bush ,fentle.they are lots of thease plants on catilina. There are lots of animal life on catilina(so we've been told)like eel, bison, deer,&foxes
Marcy, Camp Counselor: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:31PM PST (-0800 GMT)
Brittany - where did you see those dolphin or whale bones ? that is very amazing to see such a sight. Glad you know how to act around a rattlesnake - we had one at the outside entry to our office a few weeks ago and it was really a powerful presence.
darion: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:31PM PST (-0800 GMT)
AT a research building in a area and the kind of sharks were leopard sharks
Marcy, Camp Counselor: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:31PM PST (-0800 GMT)
Jason - what sea animals did you learn are nocturnal ?
Jason: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:32PM PST (-0800 GMT)

Jason: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:32PM PST (-0800 GMT)

Vincent Jason: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:32PM PST (-0800 GMT)
Hi, Marcy. This is Mrs. Rynearson. Right now, you are chatting with sixth grade students. Mr. Decroo is with the 7th graders at the touch tank. The students are having a great time!!
Marcy, Camp Counselor: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:32PM PST (-0800 GMT)
When you get back with your guides - ask them to tell you why many people are trying to get rid of the fennel out on Catalina - it is not a native plant - find out why it is causing problems and let us know what you learn.
Jason: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:33PM PST (-0800 GMT)
Oh sorry, I meant that the eels live under rocks.
darion: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:33PM PST (-0800 GMT)

Marcy, Camp Counselor: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:34PM PST (-0800 GMT)
Hi Mrs. Rynearson - good to hear from you - isn't Wrigley a great learning site ? We hope to do our teacher training out there next year. Is there a small lab on your Ocean Institute boat ?

Sharese Hill: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:35PM PST (-0800 GMT)
Lets see how much you have learnded so far!!! What is the family's last name that started the institution?
Rolando & Donte': . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:36PM PST (-0800 GMT)
We have learned today about animals, rattlesnakes, the foxe'scat, and a plant called nicotine (that is poisoned), and the only animal that can touch is the humming bird. There is another plant called andamic plant, it is found only in Catalina Island, it grows in one direction. There are some goats, deers, buffalos they are called alien animals. We also saw a big green container with perfectly clean and clear water that it is up the hills in Catalina Island. Thousand years ago there were people living here on this island. There are also another kind of plants all over the hills and we identified some with the names of andamic plants, mustards salt bush (this is a herbal plant), lemonade berry. We are now here in the university of USC in Catalina Island, and the time right now is 2:36 p.m., we watched a video of natural exploration.
Marcy, Camp Counselor: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:36PM PST (-0800 GMT)
Brittany - your class is the first group to come over on the Ocean Institute boat - usually we all go over on the regular Catalina Express that has a lot of chairs, but nothing to do on the crossing .. we were hoping you would be learning some new things on the trip over - sounds like navigating was one of them...
Marcy, Camp Counselor: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:38PM PST (-0800 GMT)
Rolando and Dante - have you been up to the ridgetop for the view up and down the coast ? if so, what did you see ?

HAVE A NICE DAY.
Marcy, Camp Counselor: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:57PM PST (-0800 GMT)
Franco - do you think the water is cleaner out by Catalina than by the mainland ? Might that be what effects the color ? or, it might be the current - maybe it stirs up less sand out by the island ? Do ask a guide and let us know what you find out please.
SPENCER tms: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 2:58PM PST (-0800 GMT)

i like it here on the catalina island because it is neat & it is very different. it is different because it was not how i pictured it out different & it does not have a lot of shops on one part of the island but that is a good thing some times.
Marcy, Camp Counselor: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 3:01PM PST (-0800 GMT)
Hi Mr. Decroo - hope you are all having a great time - sounds like they have seen some eye opening things - great for their edcuation - and life experience !
denise and elizabeth: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 3:02PM PST (-0800 GMT)
THAT STORY WAS VERY GOOD AND INTERESTING , BUT WE HAVE A QUESTION IS THE TREASURE STILL BURRIED HERE IN THIS ISLAND. BECAUSE I KNOW THAT OVER THE LAST 17,000 YEARS THE SHORELINE REDUCED. MAYBE THE TREASURE WENT WITH IT.
natalie: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 3:03PM PST (-0800 GMT)

HOW MANY TYPES OF SHARK'S ARE THER IN THE WORLD????
Marcy, Camp Counselor: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 3:03PM PST (-0800 GMT)
Natalie - maybe you thought you would be at Avalon ? that has more shops than you can stand .. and the rest of the island is even more remote than where you are now. When the Wrigley's decided to rootect the island, they did a good thing keeping so much of it in its natural state. Glad you enjoy that too !
Franco : . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 3:03PM PST (-0800 GMT)
are there any eels that are herbevors?
Mr. Decroo: . . . . Tue, Jun 13, 3:04PM PST (-0800 GMT)
