Welcome to the Robert Louis Stevenson in California Dig ………………………… Robert Louis Stevenson – also known as RLS – came to California for a very important year in his life. After this year and his experiences along the California coast and in the mountains, he began writing the stories that were soon the make him famous around the world – like Treasure Island, Kidnapped and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. During this short but very eventful period in California, Stevenson gathered materials for 'The Amateur Emigrant' that recounted his passage across the Atlantic and travel across the North American continent; The Silverado Squatters', which told of his honeymoon in a rustic cabin in the California mountains, and four smaller essays on California.
