Tommy and Rena - even though SF is by the ocean - people can not DRINK sea water can they ? The developers wanted water not only for emergencies like fires - but also to allow the City to rebuild and GROW GROW GROW........... If people can not drink sea water right out of the ocean - is there any other way they can drink it ???? If so, HOW ? (hint - Catalina Island and Santa Barbara are two places that solved this problem)

Marcy, Camp Internet: . . . . Tue, May 15, 1:04PM PST (-0800 GMT)
Emily and crew - there was no mining IN San Francisco, but you are right that hydraulic mining was a HUGE reason behind other water wars that destroyed large areas of the pristine California backcountry --- and -- the silt the water tore loose also swept dpwnstream and destroyed farms in the Central Valley near where you live today. The farmers and the miners had a HUGE legal battle to try to protect the farm lands ... but the famrers lost in court because the judges were friends of the money-rich miners.
