We've learned about many plants both native and and from other countries. The Arfrican Salt Bush is a home for the Catialina's native lady bug. It has no spots on its back.

Victoria3- Nikol: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 10:58AM PST (-0800 GMT)
We learned that most of Catalina Island is baaddde of blue- rock schist.

Victoria3 - Ryan: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 10:58AM PST (-0800 GMT)
We have learned about many different fish and mammals such as the leopard shark, the moray eels, the gerabaldi, and the american Bison. We have seen the leopard shark, the moray eels, and the gerabaldis. We have seen sea bass and kelp bass, but haven't learned much about them. We have seen videos about many sea creatures, but haven't seen any.

victoria3/Simon: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 10:58AM PST (-0800 GMT)
we saw leopard sharks, eels, sea and kelp bass, and all other sorts of fish.

Marcy, Camp Internet Headquarters: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 10:58AM PST (-0800 GMT)
We just accomplished the FIRST EVER live two way video/audio broadcast with Victoria students from Catalina Island to Santa Ynez Valley on the mainland - it was so great to hear the students describe what they are learning on this Expedition! Go Campers !

Marcy, Camp Internet Headquarters: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:00AM PST (-0800 GMT)
What did you touch today in the salt water touch tank ? Isn't that a great learning tool ?

victoria3/Gavin: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:01AM PST (-0800 GMT)
One animal we learned about was the Moray Eel. It has a black hole on the side of its body, which is where it breathes out of. They also crouch their shoulders while eating.

victoria3/Simon: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:01AM PST (-0800 GMT)
We havn't touched the creatures in the touch tank, yet

victoria3: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:03AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The early inhabitants of the island used the plants for food. These foods include wild oat, lemonade berries for drinks, and fennel. They lived in large houses called tules. These homes held many families. They used soapstone to make cooking bowls. They used soapstone because it would not crack like regular stone. There is no moisture in soapstones.

Victoria3 - Ryan: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:03AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The weather is great! It is about 80 degrees F. There is a nice, 75 degree breeze coming through.

Victoria3- Nikol: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:04AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The highest peak on Catalina Island is Mt. Orizaba. It is 2070 feet high. The island is 21 miles long, 8 miles wide (at it's greatest width), and 75 square miles.

victoria3 Natalie: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:06AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The weather here is great! Yesterday we had to go on a hike to get here from Twin Harbors. On the hike we each got a card that had a picture of a plant on it. Each of us had to find this plant on our hike. Some of the plants that we learned about include Foxtail Cheat, Lemonade Berry, Indian Paintbrush, Mustard, Wild Oak, Golden Stars, and my favorite - the African Saltbush. This is my favorite because it attracted alot of native ladybugs. You could tell if they were native by nthere spots. If they were native they wouldn't have spots on them and they were an orange-ish color.

Victoria3 - Ryan: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:06AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Catalina is slowly rising above the water at about a millimeter per year.

victoria3/Gavin: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:07AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Catalila Island was formed by the earths plates moving towards eachother. When the plates colide, one will eventually slide under the other. The one on bottom will rise the top plate upward, forming an island. This process is called subduction.

Victoria3/Bryan: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:07AM PST (-0800 GMT)
We have learned about a lot of animals here, there is the sea star, a moray eel, and a kelp bass. We have learned about a variety of plants. There is a mustard plant, a lemon berry, a sunflower, and a wild oat bush. There was a African salt bush, it had a lot of ledybugs. The salt attracts them. One plate slides under the other when they hit each other. The water here rises very very slow. One new thing that I liked was in the lecture room the screen comes down from the ceiling.

victoria3: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:07AM PST (-0800 GMT)
We saw ladybugs that were native to Catalina. These ladybugs had no spots. We saw plankton. The plankton made sparks of light when Mr.Kraemer disturbed them. This was an example of bioluminesence. We also saw morray eels and how they ate.

Marcy, Camp Internet Headquarters: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:10AM PST (-0800 GMT)
HOLD ON GUYS - double check fennel - ask Ellen - it was not there in prehistoric times. How did it get there ??? And what are the problems it now causes ?

victoria3/Gavin: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:11AM PST (-0800 GMT)
I'm impressed with the the hyperbarrack chamber here at Wrigley. The technology here is amazing.

Marcy, Camp Internet Headquarters: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:11AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Great that you got to use the microscopes and see the bioluminescence !

victoria3 August Kraemer: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:11AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Hi Tim We have our second group here to do the live video chat

Marcy, Camp Internet Headquarters: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:11AM PST (-0800 GMT)
How is the hyperbarric chamber used ?

Victoria3 - Ryan: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:11AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The hyperbarrack chamber was the most amazing piece of the equipment at Wrigley Center.

victoria3/Gavin: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:13AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The hyperbarrack chamber is used to give the body extra oxegen.

Victoria3 -: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:13AM PST (-0800 GMT)

The weather today is sunny, a few clouds in the sky, and a tiny brezze here and there.

victoria3/Teddy/Kraetsel: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:28AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The hyperbarrack chamber is used to give the body extra oxegen for divers who have too received too much pressure. It was really great to go into the hyperbarrack chambers and see for ourselves how important it is to save lives.

Victoria2 Isaias and Chip and Stephrenee: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:29AM PST (-0800 GMT)
today we touched sea stars, crabs, sea cucumber, sea slugs, sea hair, snails, and hermet crabs.

victoria3/Travis: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:30AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Hello,from Catalina.

Victoria3 Natalie: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:31AM PST (-0800 GMT)

victoria3/Travis: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:34AM PST (-0800 GMT)
The weather here is sunny,Although this morning it was cold and breezy.

victoria3/Teddy/Kraetsel: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:35AM PST (-0800 GMT)
1. Animals we have seen include: a deceased baby rattle snake, butterfly caught in "Charlottes" web, sea gulls, black crows, etc. In the touch tank we were quite informed about sea stars, sea urchins, crabs, sea slugs and more. We thought it was very interesting how the sea stars ingested their food using their stomachs and ingesting the critter inside out. Wow! We were able to watch Loraine feed the moray eels and kelp bass. Apparantly they were all very hungry for attention and sardines.

Victoria Dan,Tim, Rubi: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:35AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Today Lorranie tought us about eels. She also fed them sardines and anchovies. She also fed the sea bass.

Victoria3 Andy/ Natalie: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:36AM PST (-0800 GMT)
We saw seaweed, lemonade berry, California Sage, and African salt plant.

Victoria3/Michel M/Jess R: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:36AM PST (-0800 GMT)
There is a war on Catalina. Between the native and fennel plants and animals.

victoria3/Teddy/Kraetsel: . . . . Wed, Jun 6, 11:37AM PST (-0800 GMT)
4. We wanted to mention that we participated in our first live chat with Timothy from Camp Internet. He asked very informative and inquisitive questions. Thank you.
