Clue #1 We are going to take you to the site of the Islands Symposium online, and can you tell us whose bones – the big ones – are on display outside the gates of the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History ? How many kids do you think would fit inside the ribs of this animal ( hint, its big enough to hold a small car like a Volkswagon ) ? Try this button clue – it should be one of the first photos you find … whose bones ? how many kids would fit inside ?

Camp Team: . . . . Thu, Apr 8, 7:23AM PST (-0800 GMT)
Clue #2 The Chumash nation sent a group of dancers to the Symposium to share one of their cultural activities with the scientists and historians present. Take a look at the clothing they are wearing, and tell us what you think it is made of, and what animals they might be dressed like ..... Click here to look through the symposium scrap book to find the photos of the dancers …..... button ( keep clicking on the 'continue' button to work your way through the scrapbook ) and let us know what you see …….....

Clue #4 ….. The Great Mortar Mystery .... off the coast of La Jolla, just north of San Diego, scientists and divers have been discovering a very unusual deposit of round stones that were used by the native inhabitants in prehistory as mortars - bowls made for grinding foods and plant materials. What is interesting about their discovery is that not only is there an undersea bed with thousands of the round cobble volcanic rocks used to make these mortars - but there are also hundreds and hundreds of CARVED mortars resting out there on the ocean shelf with-in easy canoe paddling distance from the shore..... Read about this discovery here button .... and then tell us what you imagine the bowls were used for that lead to them being left in the sea for thousands of years .....

FIELD UPDATE : a long lost shipwreck is appearing again, emerging from the shifting sands on San Miguel Island. The three masted schooner, the Comet, wrecked off the coast of San Miguel Island on Wilson Rock in 1911, and washed ashore where it was photographed at the time of the disaster, had long since disappeared under the sands of Simington Cove on San Miguel. All that has been seen of the ship for many years was the tip of her anchor.
