******** The Wrigleys started the Catalina Tile Factory on the island using local clay. Pieces from the factory now sell for hundreds of dollars and are collector items. The tiles still decorate many of the benches, fountains and some buildings in Avalon. If you have a few of the colored tile drawings to send us, we would like to post your work online. Digital photo or acutal drawing we can scan *********

***** The Wrigley's did more than just buy the island ... they carefully protected it from too much development - and - they made sure ther were lodging from tents to fancy hotels so that ALL PEOPLE, no matter what their income level, could come enjoy this beautiful island. They also invested in water systems, roads, and the tile factory, built schools and helped the people who lived on the island have a better way of life. *********** They helped found the Catalina Island Conservancy to keep the other areas of the island protected, including helping native plants and animals survive *************
