In addition to Native Americans who have lived on the island - there were ranchers who visited for short stays and who brought sheep out to the island. The sheep were very hard on the native plants - scouring them down to their roots so they could not come back again the next year. You are right Otters - no fresh water made it impossible for the island to be occupied year round.

I just went to your classroom web page and found this interesting picture - what is this a photo of ?
Marcy, Camp Internet: . . . . Mon, Jun 11, 2:25PM PST (-0800 GMT)
Dolphins - on the boat reservation form for your trip - it says EAST Anacapa, so I think you may have gone to the largest of the three islands. Might that be correct ? Did you ever reach a point where you looked down the spine of the other small islands ? reminds me of a dragon's back in the photos I have seen.
Otters Madison school: . . . . Mon, Jun 11, 2:26PM PST (-0800 GMT)
It is a picture of rock art.
Sea Urchins: . . . . Mon, Jun 11, 2:27PM PST (-0800 GMT)
The picture is rock art.
Marcy, Camp Internet: . . . . Mon, Jun 11, 2:29PM PST (-0800 GMT)
The photo on your "HIKE" page at button has an image of the string of Anacapa islands - you must have been standing on EAST Anacapap, looking out to Middle and then beyond must be West Anacapa? If it was a clear day, far beyond you would see Santa Cruz Island. That middle islnd must be where the Winnfield Scott shipwrecked ...
Otters Madison school: . . . . Mon, Jun 11, 2:29PM PST (-0800 GMT)
There was no fresh water.
Marcy, Camp Internet: . . . . Mon, Jun 11, 2:31PM PST (-0800 GMT)
Can you imagine the Pacific Ocean with out Anacapa ? what caused it to form ? can you imagine that event ? describe what would have happened as it was created (hint - there is a short mention of the vent here button )
