Welcome to the ROCK ART DIG. Rock Art was the way prehistoric peoples, who did not have writing, communicated ideas, wrote histories, and spoke to their holy people. Different rock art was made for different reasons and today scientists try to understand how the rock art was made, by whom, and why it was made. Rock Art remain a mystery for the most part, but yet it speaks to us clearly of a way of life and a way of thinking from very long ago. It is very important to protect this fragile ancient art and communication form, and our Trail Guides help preserve rock art so we can all enjoy learning about it. FOLLOW-UP #1 Study the Camp Internet Rock Art Gallery and history pages. Then create your own rock art inspired by their images and colors. You can do this with chalk as a group out on the sidewalk, on a roll of brown craft paper on the floor with crayons and then wrap it around a corner of your classroom like a cave. You can paint on hand-sized rocks. Or you can draw on fine sandpaper, on golden brown paper, or regular writing paper to create your own rock art. TEACHERS if you can scan your students work and send to us, we will add it to the Student Gallery!

#2 The colors that they used were light brown, orange red, light yellow, a little bit of red, and a bit of purple. What they used were mashed rocks and carved rocks squished. they used for art and sometimes just for fun some people used them for medicine. Those kind of drawings are only used to heal people if you know how to use it. The Indians that know how to use it must have some kind of magic power and use it often with people to help them go on without a painful life and very unhealthy blood that might kill them in one day, one week, or one hour. And that is the answer for question number #2
