CIRGIS Mission Statement


The CIRGIS is a regional collaborative for the collection, preparation and sharing of spatial data. Its purpose is to facilitate the development and maintenance of an ongoing public-private partnership for sharing and expanding the use of spatial data to foster informed community decision making, innovative business development, environmental management and education in the Channel Islands region of California.

Definitions:

  1. Regional: The areas within the Channel Islands Region will include but not be limited to: The Santa Monica Mountains, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties, the waters of the Santa Barbara Channel, and the Channel Islands themselves.
  2. Collaborative: A round table approach to communicating, planning, documenting and distributing the spatial data of the region.
  3. Standards: In order to make the data more easily available to the public and its members, the CIRGIS will work towards a standard methodology of decribing the data and presenting them to the public.
  4. Sharing: The CIRGIS is committed to making data available to its members and freely accessible to the public.
  5. Spatial Data: The data pertaining to the geography of the region. This may include census data, Assessor's Parcel Records, streets and roads, natural resource data, and any other data that have some conection to the geography of the region.
