Telemedicine
Telemedicine projects underway include
linking rural clinic systems to their urban counterparts, and
bringing traditional and alternative medical resources online
for preventative health awareness. In the telemedicine project,
RAIN is building the Community Wellness Project which addresses
a matrix of health issues - personal health, environmental health,
community safety, gardening, local culture, and recreation -
all aspects of a healthy community. Where ever feasible, RAIN
will be placing a free public access computer at the clinic
site, and will be training medical practitioners and the public
to make use of the new technologies. We will have doctors talking
to doctors, patients talking to doctors, and the community learning
about its own specific health challenges. RAIN's telemedicine
efforts have been recognized by the California Healthcare Association
as a model example of rural community telemedicine services.
