Taking 21st Century Health Care on the Road
The Electronic Doctors Wireless Black Bag:

Our new portable telemedicine
stations are being scheduled for circulation throughout our Rural
community Network.
This remarkable new tool for Rural Health Care professionals
makes it possible for Doctors and Nurses in the RAIN Telemedicine
Project to have, in one portable box, a complete Telemedicine Diagnostic tool
kit. The portable telemedicine appliance includes a videophone, computer, diagnostic tools for
use with the computer and direct access via the Network to clinics and
Hospitals in the region.

The Internet Bus -
Technology Literacy in Rural America
Through combined funding from USDA RUS, Albertsons Corp. and RAIN Network
Congresswoman Lois Capps spoke at the Grand Opening for the Internet Bus this month.

Congresswoman Lois Capps and RAIN Director Timothy Tyndall in front of the RAIN Internet Bus at the Grand Opening.
The RAIN/USDA Rural Utilities Service Internet Bus will be
visiting a school, library or Albertsons store
near you soon.
Leave a note here if you would like
to receive the schedule or request a visit by the Internet Bus.
From the Director

Training the Doctors, Teachers, Nurses and Community service agenciy staff
has become a big part of what we do.
Early on in the Camp Internet project we saw the need for Technology Skills
training to be available for teachers and librarians if the curriculum
was to be used successfully.
It's been four years of planning and testing, building the most effective
Framework for training the Professionals who serve our communities. Our
efforts has payed off. We now see RAIN, and the Community Center in
Santa Barbara as a yearly Professional Training location.
Each summer teachers come to our lab for 4 days of training and go back to
their schools far better prepared to introduce technology into their classroom.
We have been awarded an important Telemedicine planning grant by CTTC, the
California Telehealth and Telemedicine Center. The grant will fund a series
of Telemedicine Training session are our new computer lab.
Next year sees a valuable change in Camp Internet. Each classroom taking
part will have their choice of a GPS unit or a digital camera. Real tools to help
the classrooms do projects on the Camp Internet Web.
Congresswoman Lois Capps honored RAIN by speaking at the grand opening for
our new Internet Bus. Through the combination of funding from a federal
source (USDA RUS), a non-profit (RAIN) and a for-profit Corporation (Albertsons)
we are seeing the type of "private sector" / government / community
interaction we need.
Remember, if you want more information on the Internet Bus and where it
is scheduled to be Write to Us Here

The California Rural Technology Project (your familiar DLT project) welcomed
onto the Team at the end of last year Charlie Young. Charlie has brought Spanish
as a primary language to the skill base within our rural technology project. He
has also demonstrated a remarkable ability to organize and get active CTAC's and
Neighborhood Master Technology Families in 9 communities. Working with our
schools, libraries and medical clinics, Charlie has taken on a challenging task
and made it all work better than ever. Charlie's email is
cyoung@rain.org.He likes to hear from you so send a note.
