1) Review of the DLT Project and the role of a Community
Technology Advisory Council (CTAC)
2) Local council coordinator needed for future meetings
- Coordinator will contact council member's one month and
one week before meetings to insure attendance - who can
help coordinate council meetings for the community? Council
member Maggie Layns volunteered to act as the council coordinator
for future meetings, and will be given the list of Nipomo
council contacts by RAIN.
3) Nipomo has been given their own online community calendar
- A volunteer is now needed to manage this calendar, updating
it with community events and meetings as needed - who can
help get this started? Meeting attendee and Nipomo Youth
Technology Corp member Justin Tucker volunteered to start
coordinating the Nipomo calendar, and will begin doing so
as soon as he is trained by RAIN staff.
4) Coordination of a Nipomo Youth Technology Corp to assist
with gathering local information and adding it to the Nipomo
website, gathering information for a community GIS map,
and helping refurbish computers for the community - who
would be willing to help get this project started? Council
member and teacher John Dutra will draw up a list of youth
interested in the program to be reviewed at the next meeting.
5) Outreach for a Nipomo Technology Master Family - chosen
applicant will be setup with a good computer and internet
access in exchange for being a technology mentor in the
community - who would be possible candidates? John Dutra
and other council members will ask around the community
to see who is interested in this position.
6) Santa Barbara County surplus computers are being refurbished
by Santa Barbara Youth Technology Corp members - can Nipomo
benefit from some of these computers? Where could they be
placed in the community? Council member Michelle Johnson
will meet with other council members and community residents
who are interested in receiving a computer, and will present
a list at the next meeting for review.
7) Site needed to host free computer training for the community
- can Dana School provide a location for this? Council member
and Dana School Vice Principal Michelle Johnson is affirmative
with using the school lab to host free computer training
for the community, but will have to confirm with other school
administrators beforehand.
8) Outreach for a local computer teacher/mentor - Funding
is available to pay a teacher to teach basic computer and
internet skills for the community. Who would be possible
candidates for this position? Council member Michelle Johnson
commented that Dana School would like to have one of it's
own teachers host these classes if it is to be held in their
lab, and she will try to identify a teacher before the next
meeting.
9) New issues relating to health, education, and technology
in Nipomo: · Council member Collette Bachtel commented that
adding more information about Dana School and it's education
activities to Nipomo's website would be helpful for school
parents and community residents.
· Council member Collette Bachtel announced that the Nipomo
Recreation Center has been in collaboration with Goodwill
on support efforts for computer training programs, and would
be interested in working with RAIN on future computer and
internet education programs for the community.
· Council member Suzie Wray requested assistance from RAIN
in getting email accounts for the students in her class
to use with Pen Pal activities and communicate with students
in Santa Maria. Her school could also use a scanner for
students to scan and upload photos to the internet, and
send them to other students.
· Council member Suzie Wray commented that the Nipomo Library
is expanding and would make an excellent computer training
location if needed.
· Council member Dolly Frederick commented that the Retired
Senior Volunteer Program might be able to provide a computer
mentor if needed.
10) Scheduling of next meeting date/time and location -
next meeting scheduled for November 15th at 4pm, to be held
at Dana School in room #32
