Nipomo
Nipomo
is in San Luis Obispo County, and is situated on a mesa graced
by tall stands of eucalyptus trees. The mesa extends out to
the ocean, and inland across agricultural lands to low hills.
The town of Nipomo has a commercial section, a library with
an outstanding new facility, and is the corporate center for
the Community Health Care Centers of the Central Coast with
clinic sites in remote rural and urban areas in San Luis Obispo
and Santa Barbara Counties.
Nipomo is a community with divided cultural and economic differences.
A large part of
the population are Spanish speaking immigrants who provide
agricultural labor, another sector are the wealthy ranch and
land owners, another sector are affluent retirees who have
moved into a new retirement community, and there is also a
large sector that are American working class families who
are employed in the community and in the larger cities to
the north and south of Nipomo.
