The search by Patterson Academy for a site in the south
San Luis Obispo County to build a college-prep high school
along with a pre-school and kindergarten may be over.
The non-profit, public-benefit organization has set its
sights on the east side of Nipomo. The group is in escrow
for 100 acres of agriculturally zoned land, according
to Michael Winn, headmaster of Patterson Academy.

NIPOMO --A half century later, Korean veteran and Nipomo
resident Richard Noia finally has the papers to back up
his Purple Heart. Noia, 70, received the documentation
during a Tuesday ceremony in Santa Maria at the offices
of Representative Lois Capps, D-Santa Barbara. He served
as a first lieutenant with the Marine Corps in the Korean
War. Dick is also an Internet docent at the Nipomo library
and the president of the Grand Jurors Association in San
Luis Obispo county.

residents expressed their concerns about one of the proposed
frontage roads.

NIPOMO MESA -- Development of a new community on the Nipomo
Mesa was approved Thursday on a split vote by the county
Planning Commission. PH Property Development Co. received
permission to develop 1,320 homes on the 957-acre parcel
east of Highway 1 and south of Willow Road. The Woodlands
project also includes a 500-room hotel, 45 holes of golf
over 300 acres, a 22-acre business park, a 12-acre village
center that will include a park, lake, shopping and offices,
and 207 acres of open space, parks and natural areas.
The project is expected to be developed over 10 to 15
years.

The Board of Supervisors gave the green light Tuesday
for an additional 44 homes in Nipomo's Black Lake Golf
Course community without the use of transfer development
credits (TDCs). The board voted 5-0 to approve a series
of amendments to the Black Lake Specific Plan and the
Land Use Element of the County General Plan.

NIPOMO - With a little more than the click of a mouse,
the Nipomo Library increased its information base by more
than 200 million volumes recently. The Nipomo Branch of
the San Luis Obispo County Library is tiny in comparison
to its colleagues in Arroyo Grande and San Luis Obispo.
But in January, the West Tefft Street facility, barely
a year old, started blazing a trail to cutting-edge technology
as it was the first to offer public Internet access for
the entire system.

NIPOMO -- The Nipomo Community Services District is attempting
to make yet another pass at getting state water. The district
board has authorized its staff to begin working with Central
Coast Water Authority and other county and state agencies
to install a "turnout" or valve on the state water pipeline
that could be connected to Nipomo's water system in an
emergency.

New World of Books Opens it's doors in Nipomo June

The new Nipomo Public Library has opened at 918 West Tefft
St., right next to Dana Elementary School. Branch manager
Rosalyn Pierini boasted Monday about its many reference
books, novels, Hispanic and English collections, CD-ROMS,
adult nonfiction and hundreds of children's books. The
6,350-square-foot facility has room for 18,000 books.
Only 6,266 books had fit into the old 900-square-foot
library on West Dana Street.
