Oso Flaco Lake

The Nature Conservancy and the Park Service manage the area including Oso Flaco Lake, the beach area from there to the mouth of the Santa Maria River, and many acres of the surrounding dunes. Students and families from Guadalupe have been coming here for years to hike, fish, and just to enjoy the natural beauty. A group of 8th graders wanted to do a project using their skills and interests in computers, graphics, and the internet. The Dunes Center in Guadalupe supported their work with materials, and even more importantly, with guidance in the field by two of the great docents that regularly share their knowledge and love of this area with students and adults from all over.
