Meeting Minutes
Monday, January 8, 2001 time: 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Oak View Community Center
18 Valley Road
Oak View, California



Attendees:

  • Charlie Losoya Young - DLT Coordinator, RAIN Network

  • Jane Middleton - DLT representative/Ventura County Libraries

  • Leanna Kennedy - President Oak View Civic Council

  • Meeting Minutes

    Computers:

    Jane Middleton has received requests for computers through out Oak View. Residents have inquired about the RAIN program, and are interested in being part of the Technology Master Family Program.

    Requests for computers came from the following community members:

  • Oak View Civic Council - Leanna Kennedy

  • Oak View Children's Center - Keith Iveson/ 2 per
    sonal computers if possible for 36 kids

  • Christy Cregut - CTAC Member

  • Linda Guerena - CTAC Member

  • Brian Corr- Resident of Oak View


  • In addition, Jane Middleton has requested 2 laptops.

    One laptop would be allocated to Noshed Jan. He is receiving a stipend for volunteering, with the Oak View Youth Technology Corps, and very active in the community.

    Charlie Young indicated that the computers are currently in storage, and would need Jane, Noshed to assist in obtaining, testing, and configuration of the hardware.

    YTC- (Youth Technology Corps)

    Noshed Jan is 19 years old, and is currently receiving a stipend for his activities with YTC. Moreover, Noshed Jan has his own Design Company entitled "Jennies Inc.". He is presently working on Oak View's web page for the Civic Council. Nisheet can be reached via his e-mail address at:

    He is also active with the Ojai Youth Foundation. He was unable to attend today's meeting because of prior working commitments for his parent's store at Ven Oak Market in Oak View. Nisheet will be recruiting additional members for YTC.

    Oak View Library:

    A new librarian has been hired for the Oak View Library, Ms. Arleta Rodriguez. The Friends of Oak View Library is active again and looking for new members to help support the Friends of the Oak View Library. People interested can contact Ms. Betty Seibenthal to join the group.     SOS -STATUS:

    The minutes from the previous CTAC meeting mentioned that Leigh Melander would keep the CTAC abreast of the acquisition of the Oak View School, procedurally. Leigh Melander has been meeting with the Ventura Unified School District. The school district has stated the appraisal value of the site at $ 1.2 million dollars. The bidding is currently open for business's other that non-profit agencies. After the sixty days are over, the bidding is then opened up to non-profit agencies.

    Leigh Melander has obtained the assistance of Mr. Steve Offerman, a representative of Supervisor Bennet's Office of the Ventura County County Supervisor's office. In light of Rain's offer to assist in the purchase of the site through a commercial loan, insured by the US Department of Agriculture, Leigh, together with Supervisor Bennett of Ventura County, and members of CTAC recommended that a meeting be scheduled to meet with Directors of RAIN.

    Leigh Melander, mentioned that another non-profit agency, entitled "INTERFACE", Would be willing to assist with planning and acquisition of additional grants for funding. In addition, Charlie Young recommended that there are alternative grant funding agencies such as the Community Development Block Grant Program that could be of assistance.

    Charlie Young recommended that meetings, activities, and fund-raisers be held at the Oak View School which would insure further funding, and present to potential funding agencies such as the Department of Agriculture the seriousness, and need for a Resource Center at Oak View School.

    Closing:

    Members of today's meeting agreed that there should be another CTAC meeting preferably in the evening so those additional members of the community can attend. Many of the residents and current members work full-time and are unable to attend meetings during the day.

    A future meeting will be scheduled as soon as convenient.

    Follow - Up:

    1. Charlie Young to submit a request to Directors of RAIN organization for a meeting to discuss the SOS issue.

    2. Jane Middletown will submit a the following request to Charlie Young, DLT coordinator:

    Desktop and laptops mentioned above.
    Locations of the computers.
    People responsible for the computers.


    3. CTAC members need to be contact for the next scheduled meeting.

    The purpose of the next meeting will be to activate educational goals,

    Results of matters brought up at January 8, 2001, meeting.
