With the release of Windows Vista, Microsoft have made creating a dial-up connection much easier.
Click on start and select the Connect To menu option.
The Connect to a network screen will now open.
Click Set up a connection or network option.
The Choose a connection option screen will now open.
Select Set up a dial up connection from the list of options and click Next.
In the new window that opens type in the number you dial to connect to RAIN in the first box.
Then enter your username (I.E. username@rain.org) in the next box.
Then your password in the next text box.
Click the Remember this password box.
Then in the Connection name box type RAIN Network.
If you want to allow other users of the PC to have access to the dialer we are setting up click the box detailing this. You will asked to confirm this.
Once you've entered all the details click on connect and vista will attempt to connect to the Internet to confirm that the connection works.
You will see the screen's below as it does this.
You can skip this stage if you want but not recommended.
Once the connection test has completed you will see the confirmation screen.
From this screen you can either continue on to browse the Internet or close the connection down.
Click the close button.
You will now be asked where the connection is to be used we recommend that the Home option is used.
Finally you will be presented with a confirmation screen that the network connection has been created.
Windows will not automatically create a shortcut icon to your desktop.
If you wish to create a short cut to your RAIN connection on your desktop follow these steps:
Click the start menu.
Click "control panel"
When the control panel appears, select "Network and Internet"
Select "Network and Sharing Center"
In the "Tasks" on the left, select "Manage network connections"
You should now see an icon for your rain dial up connection.
Select the rain dial up icon by left clicking on it once.
Now right click it and hold the right mouse button as you drag the icon to your desktop. Release the right mouse button and you will be asked to create a shortcut.
