DSL Setup - Windows XP

Postby ayami on Fri Feb 22, 2008 8:31 pm

Windows XP DSL Setup

Click on the start button then go to control panel>network connections.
Once in network connections click on the "create a new connection" option in the upper left hand corner of the window.

Image

Now the "New Connection Wizard" will appear, when this screen appears select next.

Image

Place the dot in the radio circle that reads "Connect to the Internet" and select next
connect2internet

Image

Next place the dot in the radio circle that reads "Setup my connection manually" and select next.

Image

A PPPoE (dynamic IP) connection requires a user name and password. So now place the dot in the radio circle that reads "Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password" and select next.

Image

The wizard will now ask for a name for the connection. Type a name into the box and then select next.

Image

The wizard will now require you to enter a user name and password. Enter {dslphonenumber}@value.net for the user name (example: 3332221111@value.net). You must now also decide who will be able to use the connection by either checking the first box or not. These check boxes are usually checked.

Image

Congratulations! You have successfully configured windows XP for a PPPoE connection. All that is left to do is place a check mark in the box that says "add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop" and click next.

Image

NOTE: In order to make use of your newly created PPPoE connection, simply click on the shortcut on your desktop and then click connect. Leave the password field the way it is.

Image

If you selected “use this account name and password when anyone connects to the Internet from this computer” in step 8, the connection screen will have a dot on “anyone who uses this computer”. If you want it set to “Me only”, you will have to create a new connection again and this time do not check “use this account name and password when anyone connects to the Internet from this computer” in step 8 of this document.

If you try to change it on the connection window you will get a username and or password error!

DSL Setup - Windows Vista

Postby ayami on Fri Feb 22, 2008 8:37 pm

Windows Vista DSL Setup

Start by opening Internet Options.

* In Internet Explorer, Click Tools and then Internet Options or
* Find the Internet Options icon in the Control Panel. (in Vista this is easier if switched to 'classic view') or
* Right click Internet Explorer on the desktop or in the start menu and choose properties or
o (may not work, as you might get 'shortcut properties' in some intances.)
* From a run prompt type inetcpl.cpl
o (search box in the 'start menu' works as a run prompt, or WindowsKey-R brings a run prompt)

In Internet Options, Select the Connections tab, then click the Setup Button

Image

You may be prompted that the computer is already connected to the Internet (if they are, through another connection); if so, choose to set up connection anyway

Vista's connection wizard opens. Choose Broadband (PPPoE) connection.

Image

The next screen will let you input PPPoE settings.
Enter Username(including the @value.net) and Password. Set connection name to DSL Extreme.
Checking 'Allow other people to use this connection' is recommended.

Image

Click the Connect button and Vista will verify the connection. After it has finished this process, click the close button. To utilize this connection, click the Start button, select Connect To and select the connection labeled value.net.
