What Do Plants Need to Grow

In this project we will explore what is required to let plants grow. We'll learn about water, soil, food, light and air and how each of those components serves to provide plants what they need to grow.

We will conduct a series of scientific experiments and activities to show that plants are living things which require water, air, light and nutrients for survival.

We will also examine relationships between plants and other living and non-living things. Soil is the first non-living thing we will study. Something we all know plants need. But within the Garden Community there is a great deal more. Many living things which exists whereever plants grow. Bugs.

As you develop your school garden or work on your home garden you will notice different kinds of bettles, worms, butterflys, ants, grasshoppers and many more.

Your Camp Internet Garden Base Camp has a special "Bug Registry" for you to record what and who you find.

There is also a "Plant Registry" for you to enter in what plants you explore.

Here is your first scientific word list for the Garden Project. Please record in your passport the definition of each of these words,

  • Soil
  • Water
  • sun light
  • food (for plants)
