Celery

This vegetable grows slowly; requires a rich, moist, almost mucky soil; and needs to be started indoors at least 10 weeks before planting. Purchasing transplants from a supply house or nursery is reccomended.
-Planting: Mix plenty of organic matter into the soil before planting, and transplant the seedlings on a cloudy day, or shaded with cardboard to eliminate transplant shock. Set out hardened plants for a spring crop as soon as the soil is in planting condition. Space plants 10 inches apart in rows 25-30 inches apart.
-Growing: Use a mulch to keep soil moist, and give plants at least one thorough soaking per week. Manure or fertilizer should be given to the plant every two weeks.
