Whether you find a DEAD or LIVING marine mammal in VENTURA COUNTY please
call the same hotline at 805-567-1505.
FOR DEAD MARINE MAMMALS
Call 805-567-1505 and.....
Provide your name, phone number and specific information about the
animal and it’s location, be specific.
• Size
• Weight
• What type of marine mammal. (You can inform them that you are a CINC
member)
• Wounds or Blood
• Entangled in Fishing Line/Net
• If you have a camera/cell phone take a picture. If you can get the
GPS on it, even better. Let them know you are taking a pic and GPS.

Please follow this 4-step guide if you encounter an injured, stranded or
distressed marine mammal: seal or sea lion
1. DON’T TOUCH!
Do not touch, cover, or feed.
NEVER pour water on, or try to return the animal to the water.
Keep people and dogs away from the stranded animal.
Observe the animal from a minimum distance of 50 feet to
protect yourself and the animal.
2. Observe Animal
Note the physical characteristics and condition of the animal:
3. Determine Location
Determine the exact location of the animal. Be as accurate as possible
and note any landmarks so the rescue team can easily find the animal.
4. Call Hotline at 805.567.1505.
Provide your name, phone number and specific information about the
animal and it’s location.
• Size
• Weight
• Fur Color
• Presence or Absence of Ear Flaps
• Active or Weak
• Wounds or Blood
• Spasms or Convulsions
• Entangled in Fishing Line/Net
NOTE:
All marine mammals are protected under the federal Marine Mammal
Protection Act. It is illegal for unauthorized individuals to touch,
disturb, feed or otherwise harass these animals.
