Ahoy CINC Mates, Skippers Jim and Lee took 75 passengers, myself and Marty to Scorpion Anchorage Monday on an absolutely perfect summer day on the sea. Ten passengers went on to Prisoners, the rest, including many kayakers, got off at Scorpion. No whales sighted going out, but a playful pod commons greeted us as we approached the island. I led eleven passengers on a morning hike to Cavern Pt. and met the next boat to lead 33 more on the hike at 1 pm. Marty handled the busy Visitor Center. It was a warm day, especially after noon. The most impressive hikers I had among many, were 6 or 7 Nuns, who were all house visit nurses in Oxnard. They enthusiastically completed the whole hike, to a Nun, wearing their habits in the heat. I think even the usually observed foxes were hiding from the afternoon sun, because we did not see one until we were resting in the shade waiting for the Island Adventure to pick up a big crowd for the trip home. But, Mr or Ms Fox performed as if on schedule, casually strolling by everyone. On the way home a pod close to mega performed for us in their usually playful manner. Paul
