Greetings,
Earlier this week, before the fog came in and the winds picked up, hundreds
of Blue and Humpback Whales were concentrated between Pt. Conception and San
Miguel Island in an area affectionately named "The Cod Hole." This has
been reported by CINC volunteers on Monday and Tuesday. The whales may very
well still be at this location, but sea conditions were not as good
yesterday and we had to divert to Santa Rosa in the dense fog. We were on
station for about an hour and a half and the surface, and near-surface,
lunge feeding on krill was non-stop as far as you could see in all
directions. It was indeed NOT a great day to have been born a krill. The
photos from Tuesday are now posted on the boat photo site for your
enjoyment. Don't forget to click the "Map This" button to see the location
of each image.
